Ok, so I was playing a pickup game of basketball, and I recorded it with my digital camera. I have this external hard disk that serves as the media player to my 52" TV in conjunction with my 360. I was planning on watching my game on the big screen, but it didnt work.

I know that the file exported to the external hard drive cant be bigger than 4gb, so I converted it to be just under. I made sure the settings I used to convert my camera's video file would be 360 compatible because I used the same settings before and it worked.

So what gives? When I try to play the file, the screen jes goes black. I've left it on for up to 30 minutes.

Specifically, I have a 750GB Western Digital Passport, Casio Exilim Camera,and your ordinary white Xbox 360.

Ok, so you know how when you disconnect from the PC, you can "Safely Remove Hardware"?

Im trying to figure out how to do that with the 360 without turining it off every time.

ok I jes bought a 750GB WD Passport External Hard Drive (Best Buy has the same price for the 500GB n 750GB models $99 lol), and put some videos and music on it. It works! Never investigated having my 360 as my media center, but with this it jes might become that.

And Im being as careful with this as I can, because I already broke one.. So, on the PC, it tells me to "Safely Remove Hardware", but on the 360, wheres the option for that?

Turn the PC off, make sure the HDD is connected properly and restart the computer. Sometimes if a connection has been interrupted the HDD is not recognised and asks to be formatted. Im guessing you have only just knocked it off an hour(ish) ago.Big_Bad_Sad

Well, it happened las night, and we got a new one, but Im still playing with the broke one because

1) The intial clicking noise it made stopped,

2) It starts up now like normal, and even autoplays

3) But then it doesnt read any of the folders, and I cant open up the "Local Disk (H)" directory, it asks to be formatted.

I tried what you said, but Im guessing from my research that the arm thing that reads the disk is out of place or something.

He's pissed off, but I only had to go buy him another Passport. tbh, I had no idea those things were that expensive, oh well, at least I got a job, and he said the second he found a way to recover the data, I'd have to pay half of it. Now from what I researched last night, thats possibly $200-1200 out of my pocket... And to think I got a summer job so I could get myself an HDTV, not pay for this.

I tried faking like I didnt know, but he didnt have none of that. He's ex-military and served on submarines, so I guess his BS detector is still top notch.

K, now does anyone know of any shock resistant cases I can buy for one of these? All my sensitive electronice devices got em (crystal cases for my PSP & iPod Touch which ive dropped dozens of times). The ones they sell at Best Buy are these leather ones with zippers.. Id assume the Passport would overheat in those, considering theres no fan and the leather zipper case would be like a coat on it.

well, he treats that thing like its one of his appendages. It goes everywhere he goes pretty much and las time I checked he had the thing almost half full. 500 GB of stuff you cant jes redownload off the internet gone in half a second would kind of make me pissed too.

lol, getting caught drunk or high while he's figuring out what happnened to his HD and me being the prime suspect would be much worse than jes getting caught having broken his collection of family moments.

wtf, Im jes gonna try my best and pretend like I didnt do anything. I think the paranoia I got playing Dead Space alone at 1 in the morning is making me blow things out of scale. thanks, I think I might be able to sleep now.
