I am almost finished with my recent ME:1-3 run (I just finished Priority: Horizon) in preparation for me Playing ME: Andromeda for the first time (I was discouraged by my friends to play it during its initial release).

Should I prep myself to be disappointed? :(

well, it's like ME you knew, here and there, but commander Shepherd (and pretty much everything good that came from here) is DEAD , with capital D. Got my drift ?

ready for a little liky wiki mass-effect-hickey? Here's what I heard from a friend who works for Ubisoft (eastern Europe part), the same who told me about Thief 4 with one year ahead. In november, last year, a small team, for now, started the work to the next ME. The project was blocked over and over again by a suit, (it had some momentum last year in summer) but it seems that Casey won this round. The people started gathering from june last year. Stay tuned for some more liki-wiki in the next months.

PS - you know the rules, no questions asked, but I would love to hear your opinions. I think I deserve that much.

[QUOTE="prince__vlad"]

[QUOTE="the9thinning"]

so the bible of gaming should be based on your personal preferences? what if I like complicated Japanese boss fights?

Justforvisit

You didn't pay attention pal. I said...you ALL can come up with your ideas. The list is OPEN. And yes, of course they are MY ideas. Whose ideas did you think they were ? Santa's ? This is not an issue to agree with me or not. I am not imposing anything. I am just suggesting based on my experience as an old gamer. It's a way to focus to what's really important these days , now that game industry has a 20 years life. After 20 years (or less) of playing games you should have an opinion of what you want to see in a game from now on or not. The final goal is to reach a "perfect bible of gaming", where all contributes to this, born here where the community and their feedback is.

Just that there isn't a perfect bible of gaming. As you said yourself, the industry is out for quite some time now, and what didn't worked 10 years ago may be something that now works very well and vice versa. There isn't something as a perfect bible, because if you would force every developer to do the same points over and over again, can you imagine how uniform ALL games would become after a certain time?

Also, no, I don't have to want to know what I want to see in a game, because under this circumstance it wouldn't be able to surprise and baffle me with unexpected elements. Of course it can lead to crap I don't like, but I'm more than willing to pay that price to be able to experience the other side of this as well, especially, as I already mentioned, with tons of websites and game mags out there where you always can check out the review before you buy it, because reading two or three reviews about a game you're interested in but are not certain if it's something you will like can completely terminate every issue you could have with it.

So I rather trust my brain.exe in informing myself rather than a community written "bible" which forces often very unneccessary elements down on gaming companies, dooming all games to be literally the same after a while.

You know how it sounds what you are saying ? As in..."well I would like a Mercedes but I want to be surprised, even if I discover, the car has no wheels"..lol

You have to have an opinion and things that you think they didn't work, by your point of view. If you accept anything just because you wanna be surprised , you let them doing their "game". Have you been paying attention nowadays in gaming ? They sell games twice (Back to Karkland), they cut a full game on porpose just to sell it by "parts" etc. This situation must stop. if not...well....we are doomed.

[QUOTE="prince__vlad"]

[QUOTE="Tazzman1000"] And thus the new gaming bible fell apart after 14 posts :D Tazzman1000

If that would really happen it would be sad. Let me put it simple to you: "history repeats itself , punishing them, for those who failed to grasp it.". If you are old enough you'll get it, in the end ; if not...well....you'll get it someday I hope.

Haa don't worry i've heard that many times in my life :D What i meat to say was that the idea of a gaming bible would be too hard to impliment. Everyone has their own personal preference on what should always be in a game and if there is too much in the gaming bble then the developers would only choose what suits them best, just like i'm sure some priests only read from the best parts of the actual bible. I probably should've saidit in a less rude way but hey, i just say the first thing that comes to my head without thinking.

You are missing the point. The bible it will shape itself. That is the goal. What you are saying is that ..perfection don't exist. I am aware of that. Some of you people seem to take things out ofe context and twist it. This is not a contest who's the slickest. It's a challenge for us all but only IF WE CARE.

[QUOTE="prince__vlad"]I saw the dawn of pc gaming (1990)...TheBatFreak777

Not being mean or anything, but you didn't quite reach the dawn of PC gaming if you started in 1990. Things started much earlier than that. I was playing PC games as early as 1983. Now, these games were often text adventures or had super simplistic graphics by today's standards but they were awesome nonetheless.

You are mistaken, I gave you the "short version". I am aware that pc surfaced in 1981..but until 1990, even 1993 ...there were NO games to consider them as such. The real gaming, with a few exception, began when video accelerator were born, respectivly 3Dfx in 1996. (they were the pioneers)

One flaw of this gaming bible of yours is that it doesn't cover all genres. But you can correct me if I'm wrong.:D

PsychoLemons

It's not MINE. I just have the initiative feeling that something must be made by the gaming community. The "bible" will be OURS, the gamers, not mine, or yours etc Think of it as a blueprint for a standard in today games and gaming.

[QUOTE="prince__vlad"] Well written dialogue linesAllicrombie
Most published novels don't even have this and you're gonna hold developers to it? Good luck.

Lol...you have a point here, I give you that. But that doesn't mean we can't strive for better, right ? :)

2. At least 3 different endings. Today this is already a standard somehow.

-
Can't agree with that. All it needs is ONE GOOD written ending that gives you a feeling of closure and makes sense in terms of the games own created universe. Batman Arkham City comes to mind here. Just one ending, but an hell of an awesome one.

Put it this way: If you feel that ...THAT is the path you wanna go (in a game where , as in real life , there are consequences to your deeds, and that ending satisfies you , then...is as if it had , for YOU, just one good end. Because ..."good" is subjective anyway...

The idea is not to have endings, but to reflects better the made choices, as in real life, giving the game a new depth.

3. If a game has more series, every next serie can't add simplified features of the previous. If the game has more endings planned, the endings have to be in direct connection with the decisions taken through the whole series. (see the failure of Mass Effect 3)

- Well, Mass Effect certainly is an exception, along with Dragon Age. No, not every continuation of a series needs to take your decisions into account.

WRONG ! That is the POINT. Because of these ...exceptions you called it (I mean ME3)...they will create a precendent !! That is the DANGER! They will simplify everything one day , because they want to swallow casual players and that is not right, in my opinion , of course. If the community sends a clear signal that they don't accept that, who knows , maybe they will listen. (one day)

10. No more stupid and complicated boss fights. (japonese style, little men with giant monsters with orange,red hit points; first hit the leg , then hit in shoulders etc etc, no more those stupid things)

-
Heavy disagree here. I don't want to have stupid generic button mash boss fights. They're called boss fights for a reason. Because they're meant to be challenging. And especially having to take out a boss piece by piece is great fun.

Please see above what I've said about this in another post.

14. Sufficient and rigurous test BEFORE releasing the game. A money back GUARANTEED if the company lies and release a "beta" game, full of bugs, like we all see these days in gaming. (Rage, Battlefield 3 etc )

Don't know about Rage, but BF3 has NEVER made me wanting back my money, because I already knew before I bought it that the single player campaign is crappy and I wanted it for the awesome MP anyways, which hasn't let me down once. Of course occassionally I have freezes, disconnects or, very rarely the revive screen bug, but all of it isn't as frequent as I'd say it's unplayable at all. It's overhypercritical little kids that cry over every DC they encounter in online gaming, not realising how much awesome piece of tech is neccessary to play online at all and not realizing it's more than a miracle that by our tech standards it doesn't happen even way more often.

So, again, in short, it's a matter of cost and if they would have to guarantee money back so many whiners would give a game back for every single blurred texture they encounter in a game....gaming industry would be hitting bankrupcy in less than three days.

Partially you are right (the challengings in making and optimizing a game these days) but I remember days (maybe you do that , too if you are old enough) when what you bought was a COMPLETE product with no bugs at all. (Quake, Half Life..etc etc) It is not fair...to PAY and receive something that is not finished, just because, practically, corporations are greedy and want to make in one year not in two, money. We don't have to let them do that ! Because we lose (play and pay a BETA) and they win (they sell their unfinished product anyway, everytime). If they can't lie anymore and cheat people (that is called when you sell to someone something that is not finished , for a full price) they will have to ..adapt..and maybe...do something here, in our advantage. Well, don't get me wrong, I know it sounds utopic...but I, for one, I will never surrender and give up hope.

15. No more realeasing a short game just to add levels for which you have to pay after, as DICE , Valve etc did. DLCs are exceptions.

- If a company wants to make a short game, let it make a short game. If it adds on levels for download, let them do so. If you don't like short games it's your duty to inform yourself about the game before buying. That's the #1 reason why sites like GameSpot & co. are around the web and many stores sell gaming mags as well.

Nenenene...I didn't say that;) Please read again. Today...companies are ripping us off..because they saw it works. It's not an issue of making a shot game voluntarely here. It's about a scam, that is the word.

16. Multiplayer maps released after the game is out should be FREE of charge, as a RULE , not an exception.

-
Just that it costs the developer to create new ones, and they have to pay their employees and own families as well.

This is debateable. I know how a game studio works. They CAN !..But they don't want to. Why ? Because of the profit, the plague of this society.

18. Developers should have a site for reporting bugs and they should released patches as soon as they correct things if the case. They should mandatory release patches until the game is fully corrected on THEIR time and expenses. Developers should ANSWER in 48 hours to ALL customers issues, not like DICE does , for instance on their forums (Battlefield 3). They don?t actually do NOTHING in most of cases, they just want to let the impressions they listen.

ok, how about Silent Hunter 5 ? Ehh ? They sold a bugged "beta" game. They danced on community nerves a few months and then, because of the pressure they release two patches (in fact the second was significant) . But guess what ? Those dind't solve 80% of the already signaled bugs !!! What was their answer ? Well it was short and to the point: "We disconnect the support for SH5 and will be no further patches for it".So...good night, good bye, eat **** suckers. we took your money !..

19. Scripted gameplay must be reduced to minimum

- Nope. Sometimes it just works great to watch and experience a few scripted gameplay scenes. If it's well done it can add much to the experience and atmosphere of a game. Not to mention the adrenaline kick when you're first time experience a situation where you think you're doomed to die but some cool sequence turns the tides

Did you play the first STALKER ? How about the other twos ? Ehh ?

20. Dynamic weather, day/night cycle. This is a standard for a real game today.

-
Nope again. What if the story wants to be told within a day? What if it needs sunshine? Given, some games use this element very well and it's authentic, but making it a must have for every game would be a drawback and uneccessary forcing on of elements.

What you signal is THE EXCEPTION, not the rule my friend.

21. No more hiding things to the customers as DICE did with Battlefield 3. They sold the game and after they said you have to pay for premium and if you don?t pay you are treated as if you are second rate gamer.

-
this is pretty...sorry, I don't know of any way of writing it without insulting, so I better not write it at all. DICE didn't hide anything. They sold Battlefield 3 on release even in it's Limited Edition for the same (same !!!!) price as the standard edition in many locations, so you already got a gift from them in the start. Premium came up a half year later and not as you make it to seem right after release. Also, you're not treated as second class gamer, you still can use every feature of the basic game and B2K (in the case of the LE). If you're refering to waiting in queues, even most Premium Players don't use it because, why should I chose to wait, even if I'm prefered in the waiting process, when I just can chose another servers with free slots where I don't have to wait at all?

By the way, with all of your points, well, at least some of them, you're dooming indie developers, because small creative studios may have good ideas and concepts, but they more than often enough have to use their small budget to make the game at all, they can't pay additional for good voice actors, famous cg artists and so on. And seriously, a well written text,good and creative workarounds of high end cg scenes (like for example the comic cutscenes in MGS Peace Walker, don't get me wrong, they're artful too, but I bet way less demanding than a FF XIII CGI cutscene) can be way more interesting or better in the end for a certain type of game.

So what is your point ? To make discount to...quality beacuse of indies studios ? It's that it ?

I agree that indie studios may be better in concepts, ideas, creation but I won't stand for bad quality because of this.

Maybe you should play games rather than complain about then, TC.NiKva

First I thought you were into the wrong thread. Read again. You might get it after a while. If you can, of course. :)

about BOSS FIGHT...

I think I wasn't clear enough or I just was misunderstood. I didn't say I don't want boss fight all. I said I don't want THAT stupid Japonese clone "model". Do you really think is challenging and .."original" if you shoot a boss , monster etc into orange spots and keep doing the same thing for 20-30 minutes ??? ( Lost Planet comes now into my minds , but it's not the only one) I think this is STUPID and unoriginal. PERIOD.
