Honestly, the whole WWII aspect of first person shooting games has been extremely over-produced in these past years and I've loved how they've gone towards Modern Warfare. I've heard that they're still going to make another Modern Warfare (and for those who have completed the campaign for MW2 know why it would make sense).

I'm waiting until my day off to pick up my pre-order. My local Gamestop said they're having a mini-party with people playing COD 4 multiplayer on their free consoles and have contacts with retired military personnel to bring a humvee and have an army recruiter there. To me, I don't want to have to go through all that mess just to pick up a game. I'll go on my time.
I have never played Modern Warfare and thinking about buying it and/or MW2. I was wondering what was so great about. I assume it's the multiplayer, but what's so different about MWs multiplayer versus say Rainbow Six: Vegas? I loved RSV and RSV2s multiplayer and was curious how they stack up to MW.

COD 4 has similarities to Rainbow Six but then again it's completely different. COD 4 has constant action and pretty much anyone that enjoys FPS games can pick up the controller and do some damage. Whereas Rainbow Six requires more tactical awareness and stealth. MW is still a great buy for single player as well even though it is pretty short, it's still fun (especially going through it on veteran). The multiplayer is awesome but can be frustrating because sometimes you're dropped into in progress games on a losing team and have to be teamed up with noobs that just run around the map with guns blazing and get in your way, etc. etc. It's still one of the most immersive multiplayer games I've encountered in a long time so I suggest at least renting MW and getting used to how it operates and if you really enjoy it..pre-order MW2 ASAP.
CoD is overrated, MW2 is just an overly polished war game and because of the Modern Warfare games nobody seems to appreciate the older Call of Dutys like 2 and 3.

Not sure exactly how much time you put into COD 4, but there is a reason it was awarded Game of the Year. I've been told by gamers all around that MW2 is going to be one of the most highly-anticipated games to come out since the start of next-gen consoles. Also, just my local Gamestop said that they're expecting to sell 3 million - 5 million copies sold within the first 2-3 days of it's release plus another 1 million+ through pre-ordered/reserved copies.
So, in a word..no, it's not overrated. I loved the older CODs as much as the next gamer..played them several times over. However, the WW2 FPS was growing played out and I'm glad the direction it took (with a slight detour with WaW).
Currently trying to get achievements for COD 4 (going through the game on veteran) and trying to gain badges on NFS Shift (since I already got to driver level 50).
Great movie on the silver screen. Lets leave it there and not try to recreate it in a game format. Plenty of next-gen WW2 games out there.
It's obviously not a serious review if the game isn't even released yet. I don't even pay attention to reviews that give games perfect scores (because, to me, no game is completely perfect) and obviously low ones (like whatever douchebag rated MW2 a 1.0).
They're nice to get because it gives you goals to (and pardon the pun here) shoot for and it does give you a sense of completing a game 100%.
Started playing today..I absolutely love the game. I can't believe I let this one pass me by, not I'm glad I pre-ordered MW2. The game is so damn realistic and I know now why it got Game of the Year. I've been racking up the achievements along the way too but I know there's a bunch to get.
