Genre: Heavy Metal
Paranoid is a great Black Sabbath that every metal fan should listen to at least once. Although all of Black Sabbath's albums were good, this one really catches the essence of Black Sabbath. Ozzy's vocals aren't the greatest in the world, but his voice fits the songs well. Geezer's bass is loud and powerful; Paranoid probably has one of the best basslines ever. Tommy's guitar riffs are varied and unique, and his solos are complex and interesting. And lastly, Bill Wards's drumming really shines here, especially on "Rat Salad."
I'll rate the album based on the songs:
1. War Pigs/Luke's Wall: An anti-war song with memorable riffs and great lyrics. This song is amazing, need I say more? Rating: 10/10
2. Paranoid: Arguably one of Black Sabbath's flagship songs, this song is short and fast-paced. The solo is my favorite part of the song, it almost doesn't sound like a solo. The only problem with this song is that it's too short. Rating: 8/10
3. Planet Caravan: This one is very different from the rest of the songs. It's a psychedelic rock track that's very slow for a four-minute song. It may come off as a creepy song at first, but it's actually relaxing and dreamy. This song is hard to describe. Rating: 9/10
4. Iron Man: This is a very famous Black Sabbath song. The main riff is arguably the most recognizable riff in metal. I love the last part with the fast drums and loud bass. If you haven't heard this song at least once, you aren't a metal fan. Rating: 9/10
5. Electric Funeral: This song is rather unique. The riffs have an "electric" sound to them I guess. What I love the most about this song, though, are the vocals. They really add a "doomy" atmosphere to the song that I love. And the drums are also pretty good. Rating: 10/10
6. Hand of Doom: This is my favorite song on Paranoid. The song starts with a great bassline, then some dopey-sounding vocals, and then a suspenseful riff. After that comes one of my favorite main riffs in metal. The drums fit with the song like water mixes with food coloring (aka very well). Rating: 10/10
7. Rat Salad: This song is way too short, but it's great while it lasts. There are just a lot of crazy guitar riffs and really fast drums. Rating: 8/10
8. Jack the Stripper/Fairies Wear Boots: The song structure here is quite unique, which is why I love this song. My favorite part of this song is the main riff and the chorus. Rating: 9/10
Overall: 9/10. This is an album no metal fan should miss. It's one of my favorite metal albums of all time.
That's all for now. Who knows what I'll review next? Give me a suggestion if you want.
