Gamespot community and then some talk on Minecraft

With the removal of most of the conditions on this site I can see it has quickly become IGN only worse. I can barely comment on the news anymore without being torn apart by people that would rather insult me than actually post something valid in return. The language is off the charts now... this site really sucks now. It has degraded to the lowest of the low in terms of respect of each other. It use to be limited to system wars, you go there you deserve what you get. Now this whole site is like that. Just trash at every corner. I come here mainly due to habit at this point anyhow. I mean they rarely report anything of value that I want to hear. It is always ME3, Assassin's Creed, or other AAA barf that has been reported better and in a less biased way elsewhere anyhow. I did like the comments sections so I could feel like I was part of a dialog (being able to talk about gaming keeps you close to it), but as I mentioned that is pretty shot right now. Meh. Anyhow, on to Minecraft. I knew this game was a problem out of the gate. That is why I avoided it like the plague. I knew it would consume my life as I built and dug and did stuff. Well my kids came home after playing it. I downloaded the Xbox demo of it and played a little bit. It didn't take long to purchase it (don't buy it for Xbox for other reasons. I'll explain). It had local multiplayer, split screen support, this was awesome. My kids and I were playing games again together.

After sinking the next few nights into it. and I mean ALL night (all of us) - I ended up with a pretty nice house with a huge hole in the ground that I was mining. I had branched out to animals and trying to craft everything in the game I could. The animals did it for me though - the Wiki was telling me Minecraft did all sorts of awesome to help me out but the Xbox animals were not cooperating. Turns out the Xbox edition is a garbage port and should be avoided at all costs. It still sold a bazzilion copies. So I turned to the PC. And what a difference. There are still some things that drive me nuts - like when I get lost in caves and such because there is no map (and if you craft one it is complete garbage). I wish I didn't have to put all the crap in the right slot to craft it - it doesn't really provide much value there that the Minecraft Wiki doesn't tell me faster. Never-the-less, probably the most fun I have had in a game in a long time. Yeah the graphics suck, they kind of had to so the whole block thing makes sense. Yeah there are still some bugs and a complete lack of polish here and there. But until I finish making my village the way I want with these 'legos' I'm going to be mining. If you haven't tried it, you probably should, unless of course you haven't tried it because of the fear it will eat away your life... then stay away from it.
