Cool, I'll give the repair route a try first then, and see what happens! Technically it's the same PC it's installed on, as I'm just transferring the HDD, but will MS see it like that... hmmm :)

On that note, as I'm a bit fuzzy about the intricacies of re-installs, if I do a clean install, would that wipe my personal data and programs that I've already got installed (I'm normally not this thick but better with the pure hardware side of things!) - if it is, I know I can transfer the data etc to my second HDD, but not sure about installed programs.

I've had a quick search and can't see anything that directly relates to this so...

I have recently bought a new motherboard (Gigabyte GA P35 SD3L) and am in the process of transferring all of my components from the old one... having problems with the drivers, as Vista just BSOD's as soon as it loads (I'm pretty certain it's motherboard driver issues) but as I have a pre-installed OEM version of Home Premium, I don't have the disc to repair it... can I buy a retail upgrade version of HP and use that to repair my current version (and use the new licence key to activate it) as I don't want to do a cleam install as I've got a fair few programs that I have downloaded and installed?

I also have a mate who has his copy (not sure if it's OEM or retail) and I may try to do a repair using that. If it works, and Vista doesn't activate, can I contact MS and see if they can reactivate the key for the new mobo?

Cheers!

According to Misco, the chipset is an Intel 945GC + ICH7, which they say supports core 2 duo, and CPU-Z says it's an i945G/GZ

I've got a Foxconn 45Gm/45Cm mobo, that looks like the FSB is 800MHz. I'm looking to upgrade the Core2Duo E2140 1.6GHZ that came with the PC, and was looking at an E8400 (for £109) but the FSB specified is 1333 - would this be compatible with my mobo?

I know that I wnon't get the transfer rate but is it worth forking out the money?

Cheers!

I managed to sort it - unplugged the dongle, plugged it back in again, Vista searched for the drivers and bang - it worked! All a bit strange but resolved! :)

Hi

I have a Microsoft wireless laser desktop 5000 keyboard and mouse, bought about 2 months ago. As of Saturday, the keyboard doesn't work. I have changed the batteries, reinstalled the drivers, tried reconnecting the device to the wireless dongle (which just shows the lights flashing when I press the button on the dongle but goes out as soon as I release the button on the keyboard). The strange thing is, the mouse works perfectly.

The only thing I have done recently is do a force enable PAE, which I have now disabled but this makes no difference. I have tried searching MS's knowledge base and discussion groups but no joy there.

I'm running Vista with SP1, on an Intel Dual Core 2140 with 4 Gb ram. ATi Radeon HD3470, Trust 5.1 Surround Sound Card.

Google stuff like Tygers of Pan Tang or Poison - there must be somewhere on the internet that sells that sort of stuff! :)

I saw the film last night - it was great! I've always liked that sort of comic book hero though, one who doesn't have any special powers, like Batman as well. But last night - wow! The film is funny, but also makes a statement about weapons makers (in a way that makes you think 'I know that it's wrong, but it would be so cool to make a suit like that - even the bad guy's one!'). I would definitely recommend it, and will probably go to see it again myself!
