Fieldrunners 2, probably the best tower defense game on ios. Has the kiddy visuals you hate, but its very fun. You should at least check out the free trial on there.

Games I love myself at the minute are Vice city (has virtual joysticks but controls surprisingly well, i completed the RC helicopter mission first time no bother which should say something about the controls lol), Crazy Taxi (even better than the XBLA port as it has original soundtrack), Bastion, The Walking dead and civilisation revolution.
