[QUOTE="magus-21"][QUOTE="pjoasil"][QUOTE="The_Rick_14"]Alright obviously clarity is needed. What the new PS3 will ship with is simply the lack of the Emotion Chip to provide BC. This is because the chip cannot upscale ps2 games. Instead, they are providing BC through emulation like the 360. This allows upscaling but unfortunately emulators need to be created for each ps2 game (I'm pretty sure on this part). So, what this means is that the people with the launch ps3s will be able to use emulation if its provided in a firmware update...and the only real question is whether or not an option will be in place to use either emulation or the emotion chip until all games are BC. I doubt that though.pjoasil
No, having the emotion chip doesn't prevent upscaling. The reason for the removal of the emotion chip is to reduce costs. When version 1.6 is released it won't matter whether you have and old PS3 or a PS3 lacking an emotion chip. Both versions should be able to upscale DVDs/PS1/PS2 games via software update. If you don't believe me XBox 360 sent an update in december 2006 to upscale its games to 1080p (eg. Lost Planet, Sonic, Virtua tennis 3, all support 1080p) Keep in mine though that upscaling discs to HD which aren't HD-DVDs or Blue-rays aren't true HD anyway. Because to have true HD, the disc has the be HD, the laser reading the disc has to be HD, the TV has to be HD, and the wire connecting the drive to the TV has to be HD. If you don't have all of these things then you don't have true HD.
He didn't say the EE+GS chip *prevented* upscaling, he said it was *incapable* of upscaling. Games that are run through the EE+GS always come through in native 480i/480p. A PS3 with a EE+GS chip can still upscale, but only if it *doesn't* use the EE+GS chip to run PS2/PS1 games. BTW, the 360 has a built-in scaler between the Xenos and the analog output, which is why it is capable of scaling any source to any resolution (except DVDs, since DVD upscaling isn't allowed over component). The PS3 scaler is incomplete right now (only capable of horizontal scaling).I'm pretty familiar with programming and a couple of if and then statements of programming code will solve the issue of while playing a game whether to enable or disable the chip.
The 360 does have a built in scaler which does make it easiler to upscale. But it is totally not true that DVD upscaling is not allowed through component. There are hundreds of DVD stand alone players which have the feature of upscaling DVDs through component. I have one at home.
It may be an older DVD player then. All new upscaling DVD players in the US are required to only upscale via HDMI. Samsung was even sued by the MPAA because their older DVD players could upscale with a user hack.[QUOTE="ramey70"]Calling it a failure now would be like trying to collect a Super Bowl bet at 5 minutes into the 1st Quarter.TellDaddy
Yor forgot to mention the PS3 is down 21-0 five minutes into the first quarter. You may not be able to cash your bet yet but you can start spending money knowing you'll be cashing it in a few hours.
That makes no sense at all. The PS3 is down by 8 or 9 million behind the 360. The original Xbox lagged behind the PS2 by about 85 Million. A straight line proportional comparison would put the score at more like 3-0.
Very true. If anything we should be declaring the Wii a failure. It has no online play, crap graphics, is overpriced and doesn't have anything to look forward to aside from the same 1st party games that we've been playing for decades now.[QUOTE="PikaPichu"][QUOTE="ranger_waha"]Must be two years after whenever you post the idea. Let's drop the idiot act.
It's no more idiotic than anyone claiming a console war over less than 5 months into a system's life cycle.i personally dont see Blu-Ray winning the format war, Sure it might have more support and it is better in few ways, but remember BetaMax and VHS? it was the same way and who won? VHS thats why cause its cheaper, when consumers look at products they want quality with price, and HD-DVD and Blu-Ray look and sound the same but with the exception of price, im not calling this war yet but im placing my trust in HD-DVDHorrible comparison. Betamax was a proprietary format by Sony and they limited it's distribution. Bluray is adobted by a great many software and hardware companies and some even sit on the Bluray Board.

[QUOTE="planbfreak4eva"]also hd dvd max resolution is 1080i and on blu ray 1080p...thats also why blue ray more expensiveThats not true. Why make things up. Both have similar quality and many have pointed out that HD-DVD is better implemented. But I still dont support either. And I dont favour either one. I want both to fail. Why would you want both to fail? That's like saying you would rather watch regular programming on your HDTV. And no, upscaling DVD's is not a viable answer. I can upscale digital cable but it looks like garbage too.

[QUOTE="ramey70"][QUOTE="BlacKJaCK2290"][QUOTE="mu5afir"][QUOTE="BlacKJaCK2290"]BD has UPCM and HD DVD has TrueHD big whoop. That article proves nothing, its just some guys opinion.BlacKJaCK2290True HD? What is "true" HD? Dolby TrueHD Audio, lossy audio. Bluray also supports TrueHD. Of course it does, but its more prominate on HD DVD. But you made it sound as if Bluray lacked the ability.
