[QUOTE="ramey70"]I got a 56" 1080p Samsung delivered to my door for $1,799.BioShockOwnzWhat!? From where? I paid $4,500 for my 57" 1080p Samsung LCD. Mine is a DLP and I got it from Amazon.com
You must have poor eyesight. Saying that watching DVD's on an HDTV is the same as saying that watching regular channels on an HDTV is the same as watchign Hidef channels. There is a noticeable difference when you watch a TV show in high definition than when you watch one that isn't. You aren't even upconverting your DVD's which is even more amazing. How many people actually need to upgrade to HD-DVD or blue-ray. How many consumers at home need to upgrade their regular dvd collections? Its nice if you own a ps3 to get a blue-ray player with it i guess, that way you dont need to go out and buy one. But really, this isnt like the step from VHS to DVD, or like Casette to Cd's, theres just not the big leap forward in technology here to validate updating your dvd libary to either new products. I have a newer hd tv, a newer dvd player and component cables and to me the picture is beautiful. Im sure having hd or blue ray dvds would make them look a bit nicer, but not enough to validate upgrading.
The jump in technology isnt big enough to create the demand that vhs to dvd did. People are also not willing right now to pick a side when its not even clear which side will win. Just a big waste of money if you ask me. I don't know why fanboys fight over these two products as if they are the next big thing.

[QUOTE="ramey70"]Porn support won't affect Bluray or HD-DVD sales at all this time around thanks to the internet. foxhound_fox
But there is no such thing as an online market for HD porn...
How are people supposed to get their HD porn?
I'd bet 90% of the people who watch porn don't need it in HD, and many of those only need it for 2 to 3 minutes for each viewing. In the early 80's VHS was basically the only way to see porn videos in the home. Of course, you had to fast foward to the "good parts" but that's neither here nor there.

And what is to stop Sony from replicating this in NTSC regions to cut costs?Sony is taking out the Emotion Engine chip to lower costs, new PS3's shipping will be B/C thru emulation. I guess Microsoft had the right idea from a business stand point from the start, its ashame Cows had to make fun of lemmings all this time, then Sony stabs them in the back once more. You do realize that Sony said they were going to remove the EE almost 9 months ago right?
Has the porn industry started its use of HDDVD yet?foxhound_foxPorn support won't affect Bluray or HD-DVD sales at all this time around thanks to the internet.
What if you have a TV that doesn't accept 1080p via component?Honestly,
I really think that HDDVD @ 720p over VGA looks better than bluray at 720p over HDMI. IMO HDMI is kinda grainy. To me, HDMI only exists because of compyright protection, and is overratted. I have watched a few movies in HDDVD over VGA, and they look stunning. But I find with HDMI, you kind of get these blocks sometimes. Dont get me wrong I like both formats. but I cant make a final judgement until i see both running the same movie side by side in 1080p.

[QUOTE="ramey70"]Indeed. One can only imagine what a few sheiks in the U.A.E. and Kuwait are worth. cobrax25I just looked up CITGO, and their parent company Petroleos de Venezuela, made 65 billion last year. and Im pretty sure this is nothing compared to a few others. I guess this means Hugo Chavez is technically richer than Bill Gates.
