I dont think PS3 nor 360 can do 1080p. PS3 which was a first generation blu-ray just like the first generation HD-DVD players only could do native 1080i. Last time I check correct me if I'm wrong the newer blu-ray/HD-DVD drives are now capable of providing 1080p. Blu-ray discs are encoded in 1080p but do not believe that the PS3 can actually bring 1080p to the telelvision unless they update the drives on the systems themselves.. it basically gets brought down to 720p or 1080i. not too sure. I do notknow for sure that the 360 can do 1080p, because the games are not made that highyet. Even though you can setthe systemto that, it just does not look right if you do.
The PS3's Bluray player was delivering 1080p resolution in movies at launch. Even the very first Bluray player, the Samsung BDP1000, could output movies at 1080p. A recent firmware update even allowed 1080p at 24fps on the PS3 which is best for movies. As for games, the PS3 had a few 1080p native games at launch such as NBA 2k7, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Ridge Racer.
