I wish they made good horror movies these days. Movies like Saw and other gore-porn make people give a movie like Paranormal Activity great reviews. And then that makes me go see Paranormal Activity, leaving terribly disappointed. ... but, then again, never sleep ever again. Maybe it was good, lol.
I think it would have to be a sandbox game or one that is really open so the time could be passed easier. Elder Scrolls IV or Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
I personally prefer to use a controller, although using a mouse and keyboard gives you freedom to adjust the controls to your comfort. I usually use a controller on my PC anyway, adjusting the sensitivity and controls as I please. Gives me the best of both worlds.
It is hard because everybody has there own taste in classics. I am an adventure game enthusiast, so I would say Monkey Island. I also love fantasy and roleplaying games, so I'd also say Elder Scrolls. I could go on and on: sandbox, Grand Theft Auto; sports, Madden; classic, Super Mario; FPS, Call of Duty. I feel like a gamer isn't a gamer if they haven't played the prominent series in their particular genre choice, but even that varies.
Although I am not positive this is what you are looking for, it can't hurt to check out Machinarium. An independent point-and-click adventure and puzzle game. It won an award in Visual Art at the 2009 Independent Games Festival and also was a PAX 10 finalist. There is a free demo on the site to check out. http://machinarium.net Hope that helps!
