@tbird7586: Narrow point of view. There are alot factors that come into play and often mainstream gaming is forgetting mobile gaming is also consuming a large portion of gaming publics time and revenue. Sizeable portion of Activision acquisition includes mobile gaming.

There is a slight shift to Steam Decks for consumption.

Nintendo is Nintendo. Sold bucket loads.

Mobile phones are getting more powerful on every iteration. Add a controller you could play directly from the device or via cloud.

PC gaming is still the best platform for people who need to play almost everything. Sony affilates ports their AAAs. MS wins need a windows OS plus gamepass. Steam is super important ingredient.

MS view of holy grail would be cloud compute gaming with their Xbox game subscription. However, were arent there yet for mainstream gaming. Cloud AI may fix the latency issues through clever techniques like DLSS.

Maybe mainstream gaming is saturated therefore the only way to meet sales expectations is open up the install base. You mention Netflix they also had to offer a super low cost service with advertisement.

Backwards compat is great. I skipped both the Switch (still last gen to me) and PS4. Having a ball with the PS4 enhanced games for the PS5. Enjoyed the Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One S too (had a massive back catalog).

However, given this is Nintendo and make a lot pf money off remasters etc I’m leaning towards no special enhancements on the backwards compatibility games.

If you go by that logic, then you should drop the PS5 as well. Almost everything that's in there is on PC or it will be release shortly on PC as well.

They also look and play way better if you have the PC.

Most likely outcome ill skip PS6 and that may bring that Sony journey to an end. I did miss alot of PS4 games just saying and they are cheap. My next purchase is an upgraded PC but i may pick up a Switch 2 in a couple of years.

@mikemaj82: Actually have to agree. Skipped Switch entirely. Also skipped PS4 and picked up a PS5. Dropped Xbox entirely now everything is co released on PC.

PC is the only constant but im even extending equipment upgrade cycles a bit longer.

So many games these days i just dont have the time to play even a small percentage.

@Ayato_Kamina_1: Why do you need a CEO if you have no employees? Management framework disappears and you may have a board. Than board members will be also replaced with AI who can read markets faster and more logically than a human.

BTW if no one has a job how do you buy goods and services? This a rhetorical question.

microsoft is just one the one company i can perceive that could pull off the “matrix” style of control. Anyway ill be dead when that happens but god help humanity when AI really starts to distort the fabric of reality.

@oldtaku: Dont think there is anything wrong with your point of view.

Clearly the Series S despite selling well also has issues for developers (in turn MS). Hindsight is a wonderful thing but to be fair if your a modern gamer the thought would have crossed your mind on the release of S conaole that this inevitable outcome was going to happen.

Was cloud gaming meant to solve this issue itself? hard to say at this point in time.

Switch 2 is an engima because the original switch has straddled both last gen and current gen. If your looking at the Switch 2 objectively should be considered catch up to this gen because Nintendo has never been a performance leader just a thought leader as needs to run its games great.

I skipped Switch entirely (first time ever i missed a Nintendo gen) so if Switch 2 is backwards as alleged than Ill be likely to pick one up. Did the same with Sony as well skipped the PS4 and picked up a PS5.

I PC game too and I think the analyst may be right about the next platform from Microsoft. But Im thinking if they do do another Xbox it will be the last one.

Personally for gaming, music and tv shows/movies i’ve warmed considerably to subscription services. Main reason is storage.

Lets put it context im 61 and have been gaming since 1981.

When you own hundreds of dvds/blurays, comics , video games, consoles, board games etc etc. You need a lot of space.

Recently gave to charity and friends 200 dvds/blurays still have ~200 which i need to cull get it down to a manageable size. have 6 large plastic crates full of comics from the 70s/80s. 4 medium sized boxes of cds. Also offloaded. all my consoles except PS5 and Xbox One S. Still have a pc but rarely play it over the PS5.

The pros for subscription/digital library:

- actually try more games, music, tv shows and movies this way. It easily the most cost effective way to consume entertainment. I rarely play old video games too much new content.

- cancel and start anytime assuming your not super unlucky everything should still be there. I logged into blizzard everything was still there from 3 years ago when i dropped all subscriptions .

- no storage requirements

The cons:

- Never really own anything having said that 3 years ago i loaded up Witcher 2 to finish the game and the cd key didnt work. Not only that about only a 1/3 of my physical PC games was picked up by Steam.

- 4k or normal blu rays are still a better experience assuming you have a good quality tv and sound system.

- Too many services so i now only have a couple services full time.

- if the service goes out of business your digital library is toast. Reality for someone my age watching and playing old content is not a useful use of my time.
