Ive have played just about every Resident Evil game in the series and I have to say the so called "tank" controls didn't really become a major issue for me until RE4. The reason for this I think is the increase in the number of "zombies" you have to fend off at one time and the speed at which they move. Many people will argue that this control style ads to the over-all tension in the game, but being able to run and shoot does not make games like Dead Space any lenes tense or scary. I think the control scheme has been left behind during the evolution of the RE series and with the last two installments its really starting to show.
