If it came down to it I could probably reuse my psu, it's the 500 watter that came with the smilodon case. Has never given me a problem, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to upgrade.

And yeah, after reading through a lot of other posts, it seems Intel is the way to go at the moment.

Hey all, it's been about a year since I last built my computer, and I feel it's time to buy a new mobo, CPU, power supply, and fan for the CPU. I'm going to be reusing some of the parts from my current computer, with a few additions here and there.

Here's what I'm reusing

4 gigs of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211066

I'm also going to be buying another 500 gig hdd for storage, in addition to the one I already have (160 gig).

Here's the stuff I want to replace

I like my AMD processor, but I'm not opposed to getting an Intel. I basically want the most bang for my buck.

I figure I want to spend around 350-400 total, including power supply and fan. If I can spend less, that's always good.

Any help is appreciated.

Games keep me from choke slamming my boss through his desk, and allow me to share something with my daughter that we both enjoy. Oh yeah, and I'm pushing 30, still rocking the 2600 and NES, as well as the new systems. Ahh...the days before whining 12 year old's...those were the days.

Yeah it does.

Cool thanks, Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze a little more performance out of this machine.

That would easily overclock a Athlon 64 x2 4200+? I'm new to overclocking but would like to.

My comp's specs are:

500W PSU

2 GIG ram

XP

crap video card that I'm replacing today with a 8800GT.

Gigabyte S3 MoBo.

any help is appreciated.

Yeah I second Fatal Frame. When that ghost popped out from under the stairs in the atrium, scared the s*** out of me.

I've been playing guitar for 15 years, and no you won't. I've noticed that when you know how to "really" play a song that's in the game, GH is actually harder to play, because of muscle memory.

I'm thinking of upgrading my rig to someting a little more gamer friendly, what would you all suggest?

My current rig :

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+

Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3 MoBo

2 gigs or ram

160 gig Western Digital HDD

Raidmax Smilodon case W/500 PSU

Win XP SP2

Dvd burner W/Lightscribe

I know I'm buying a new PCU (preferbaly one that's modular) in the next few weeks.

And I know I need a new video card, but which one won't break the bank and still offer good performance (sub $300, so I'm thinking 8800GT).

Am I forgetting anything?
