The Nameless Mod - OUT NOW!!!

Fans of DX will be pleased to know that the biggest mod for Deus Ex has been released... weighing in at around 930MB, this isn't your typical mod, instead your treated with a total conversation which will deliver you the same experience as the original Deus Ex did.

You play as Trestkon, an agent called into Forum city to investagate the disappearance of a Modeator. Every NPC is an member or guest of the forum, expect presented in a forum like the matrix, where you jump in and navigate around the city.

Like the first Deus Ex, you explore the cities, play side missions and preform actions which will have huge effects towards you in and around the end of the mod.

With preview and high particapation around it's release, there alot of hype within this mod and after 7 years of long development and high polish build to get this release out, it's worth playing especiality if you're a HUGE fan of Deus Ex and it's gameplay mechanics.

The graphics may be a blow as the engine was released back in 1999, however the gameplay makes up the experience.

MCM Expo October 2008 - Gaming

I got the chance to attend the London Expo on Sunday... there was a lot that happen, from American Sitcom and Hollywood to Japanese Anime and Gaming fans. There was a lot going on. Playtests and stuff to buy, it was big.

There was enough in Gaming present at this expo on the day.

The DDR:UK team set up Super Smash Bros Brawl tournament along with there long running DDR-ware, where everyone took part. It was the most biggest crowd that was around at the day.

Along with voice actors and other artists, Liam Sharp, the top artist who's currently doing the work for Gears of War comics, was present and interviewed. It was worth listening to. (the camera dislikes the juicy yellow/orange poster backing, unfortunately).

Along with this, a lot of games were present for a featured play around. From Far Cry 2, Street Fighter VI Arcade, Monster Hunter for the PSP and the upcoming DC Universe vs Mortal Kombat on the XBOX 360. (The Flash never looked so awesome).

The day was great, considering that it was also held on the Saturday, There would have been a lot more to see if I went instead of a Sunday.

Back to Uni

I'm already back to University and work is already piled up, meaning less time playing games and forum/union activity, it's not much as a bad thing... I will still be around looking at the latest news and trying to post every so often in the unions.

Luckyly, considering it's my final year doing product design, I'm looking into Game controllers and devices... so hopefully I'm going to be researching more into that area other then the software of games.

The Nameless Mod/ DX HDTP Package

I'm a huge fan of Deus Ex and during the release of the first game, I was looking to mod for it.

Firstly I like to mention 'The Nameless Mod', a total conversation for Deus Ex. The story is based off of the PlanetDeusex Community, you play as Treskton, who is set out to search for moderators who are missing in Forum City.

I've done a few maps for 'The Nameless Mod', right now they're in the current stage of beta testing looking bugs and fixing them. Check out the website if you're interesting, as this is the only current total conversation for Deus Ex.

The Nameless Mod

The other mod is the HDTP (High Definition Texture Package) for Deus Ex.

Today's world, computers and consoles are powerful enough to display graphics on HD televisions, developers aim is to create games in High Definition.

A group of artist and modellers has got together to create and update the graphics presented in Deus Ex. Every texture and model will be updated to High Definition, a demo is already out, which updates a few of the models and textures of the game. You can download it here.

UT2D-GreenHill

From the beginning of June 2008, I decided to develop and construct a map for UT3, first, I decided to build a total conversation based around the Sonic theme, however I knew that I didn't have a required skills on creating a total mod.

So what I did was to create a map, in the back of my head, I decided to go with a sonic theme and went with it and the task was to learn how to use the Unreal Engine 3. I started my development, I created textures for the map, which were easy.

One of the problems I had was modelling some static meshes for the theme, the program was difficult at first and I refuse to spend thousands of pound on Maya or 3D Studio Max, however, Blender was a free program which did the job perfectly and I had the chance to learn how to create models and apply UV texture on them, which really decorated the level nicely.

The mod UT2D was really great, as it allowed the action to be side scrolling so I used that to my advantage.

I've had experience in mapping before, however I always used BSP building and textures, However I feel that adding custom meshes to a level or environment would give it a strong identity. I also realised that modelling meshes is an extremely easy job.

The rest was easy, I finished the added the models, sounds and finished the background.
