Tyrion's first wife was NOT a prostitute. He helped rescue her from a group of predatory men - fed her and talked all night and they fell in love. Tywin learned of this and became angry that Tyrion married a commoner. Tywin hatched a plan - with Jaime's assistance - to convince Tyrion that his wife was a prostitute, saying that he and Jaime set-up their meeting and paid her to pretend to fall in love with Tyrion & have sex with him. Then, in front of Tyrion Tywin ordered 4 (?) of his soldiers to rape Tyrion's wife, paying his wife a silver coin after each rape. He then ordered Tyrion to have sex with her, and then Tywin paid her a golden coin afterwards, saying that it's always worth more from a Lannister. They were forced to split up. Tyrion was devastated thinking she never really loved him. It scarred him emotionally and led to his whoring and drinking heavily. It wasn't until many years later, during Jaime's "redemption arc", that he told Tyrion the truth. It was after that when Tyrion killed Tywin. Tywin was easily one of the most evil, vindicative and psychopathic characters on the show, yet TV fans applauded his "strength and intelligence" and "leadership" - then unfairly vilify Dany who has made early mistakes but never close to Tywin. Double standard for women leaders.
