@kyle Yes, Sony included DVD in the PS2 and Blu-ray in the PS3. However, I'm quite sure that decision had more to do with one of their subsidiaries called Sony Pictures Entertainment than it did with their mission to expand the appeal of games to more people. The same reason applies for adding Netflix, and for that matter, making the PS1 able to play audio CDs. SPE makes a lot of money (7.2B USD in 2010) off Music, Movies and TV, so why wouldn't they want a console made by their company to be able to sell and/or play their content? Considering all of Sony's holdings, it just makes good business sense. As I said before though, it's about selling consoles along with the content that can be seen, heard and played on them, not so much for bringing in new gamers. The Move is an obvious exception, which was more of attempt to steal market share from Nintendo than attract new gamers.
