Thoughts About Ys: The Oath in Felghana

Ys: The Oath in Felghana is a Japanese Action Role-Playing game that was released on the following systems:

Microsoft Windows:

2005

March 29, 2012 (Steam)

and also available on GOG

Playstation Portable:

April 22, 2010 (Japan)

November 2, 2010 (North America)

January 27, 2011 (Europe)

It was developed by Nihon Falcom and published worldwide by XSEED Games. Supposedly, I should be playing the PC version of the game. However, I ended up playing the PSP version which is absolute great too. It is said that this game is the remake of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys. The plot of this game is about Adol and Dogi returning to Felghana. To cut the story short, Adol must stop Galbalan and the rest of the villains in the game in order to save Felghana. As I progressed through the game, I was shocked when I found out that Bishop Nikolas and Sister Nell turned out to be villains.

About the gameplay, well as an action rpg, it plays as an action rpg (obviously even most in the action rpg formula are there). It lets you buy items and weapons, armors, and shields that are kinda expensive but worth buying (you can work on the money to buy those through patient grinding). You can also upgrade your weapons and armor up to 3 levels which is actually essential during your adventures. Before you totally start a new journey, it will let you choose 5 difficulties: Very Easy (do not choose this difficulty, I repeat, do not choose this difficulty. Unless, if you find this game hard on higher difficulties), Easy, Normal (I chose this difficulty because I want my play through to be as balanced as it could be. Not that easy, not that hard. Just balanced.), Hard, and Nightmare (The hardest difficulty there is until you unlocked an extra difficutly: Inferno).

This game also has metroidvania elements wherein you need to go back and forth every now and then to get the items which you will find useful later on. That is why having 3 elements in the game: Fire, Wind, and Ground are essential especially, the double jump even the very important items like the Firewyrm amulet, etc. The save system in this game is limited wherein you can only save on certain points. To save your game, you need to find a monument so you can save your game and recharge your health fully at the same time. Despite the limitations, you don't have to worry that much about that since when you are about to enter a boss battle, there will always be a save point waiting for you there. Later on in the game you can use the save point to teleport through the places around Felghana that you have already discovered through standing there and activating the item called "Wing Talisman". The scenes in this game have voice acting. During the boss fight, you won't be able to heal yourself. If you die, you can try the boss fight again. It has the boost system wherein the first boost (blue one) makes the player have better damage, take half or small amount of damage and the second boost (the orange one) makes the player use his skill which can cause damage plus as the boost decreases, his health regenerates. You can tweak everything in the settings whether in the game, sound, or controls section.

Once you've finished the game, you'll be able to unlock a few things:

1. Inferno difficulty (That difficulty is beyond the hardest difficulty)

2. Time Attack (You can challenge yourself how fast can you defeat the boss/es in the game)

3. New Game+ (It lets you start the game over again with the equipment, gold, raval ore, and items that you have in the game. It has secret bosses, too. Gotta find out for yourselves)

Note: it lets you save your clear data for your New Game +

Here are the gameplay tips for you if you are playing or planning to play this game:

1. Learn to grind, grind, grind, grind, grind in order to gain enough gold, raval ore, and exp. It takes time so you need to be patient.

2. Upgrade your weapons and armor every now and then. It slightly increases damage or defense to your equipment. Other option is buy a new set of equipment.

Note: Some equipment can be found in some areas of the game.

3. Learn the patterns of each boss. It takes trial and error to learn the pattern of each boss. So if you die, try and try again.

4. Learn the one of the most important things: DODGE, DODGE, DODGE. Although it is inevitable to fail doing this at times, it is still a must to dodge every attack from the boss during boss fights or else, you'll take consecutive amount of damage which will cause your player's quick demise.

5. If tips 3 and 4 don't work after a few tries, all you have to do is grind again for gold, raval ore, and most importantly, exp. If you think your level and equipment is enough after the grinding, you can take on the boss again and do the tips 3 and 4.

6. Memorize the areas. Memorizing the areas could be useful since as I have mentioned in this blog, you will end up going back to those already discovered areas to get the items that were inaccessible in the early parts of the game.

7. Before entering a boss fight, Save, save, save, and SAVE! In case of emergency.

8. Do some side quests. Finishing side quests equals=rewards.

9. Using Katol Elixir can increase your permanent HP slightly while Sprit's Necklace can revive the player when he dies.

10. Sit back, relax, and have fun!

The pros and cons will be listed below as follows:

Pros

-Good and memorable OSTs especially the main theme, some boss fight OSTs, and the theme in Valestein Castle.

-Graphics is simple but beautiful. As most people say, simplicity is beauty.

-The gameplay is absolutely great. It is easy to pick up to and at the same time, enjoyable to the highest degree. This is one of the reasons why I began having interest playing Japanese ARPG again after a quite long time.

-The story is immensely touching. Unconditional love, sacrifice of one life for many lives, a hero who will save Felghana and its people, support from the residence of Redmont, and it is also inspirational. You can learn life lessons through this game. You may even feel attached to the characters.

-The voice acting is great, great enough for the US version. Aside from that, the voice acting is not cringy. Besides, the voices in the game are well fit enough to the characters. The Japanese version is good as well even though I haven't played the Japanese release of this game.

Note: My two favorite characters in this game are:

Chester Stoddart
Chester Stoddart
Adol Christin
Adol Christin

That is because they're both awesome and they both have a nice hair. They're awesome to the point that Adol fought for Felghana while Chester sacrificed himself through blowing Genos Island to save Felghana.

Cons

-Nothing! Nothing! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG!

Therefore, I rate this game 10/10. Is there anything that you want to share about this game? Any gaming memories with this game? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Thoughts About Parappa The Rapper

Parappa The Rapper is a rhythm video game that was developed by NanaOn-Sha and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was released for Playstation in 1996 in Japan and in 1997 in Europe and North America. It was also released for PSP (PlayStation Portable) in 2007 and on PS4 (the remastered version) in 2017.

This game is about Parappa the Rapper who has a crush on Sunny Funny. He'll do whatever it takes to be with her. Sounds romantic right? Normally, the story of the game will be in the beginning, everything's good and then, there will be a conflict and Parappa should know what to do. To make things possible for him to do everything for his crush, his only solution will be "I gotta believe!"

This game has six stages. The first stage will be the Kick Punch Block, the second stage will be the driving lesson, the third stage will be the selling goods part, the fourth stage will be the baking of a cake, the fifth one will be the finding the toilet and bust your way in, and the final stage is the rap performance of Parappa and the others who were in stages 1-5. You can only save your game every after finishing the stages successfully.

There are 3 things that you need to remember when playing this game:

1. Patience- Patience is the key to finish the game. Trial and Error is applicable. Don't worry, you'll get to it eventually.

2. Know/Memorize the pattern of each stages- Although there are on screen buttons to press, still, you have to know or memorize the pattern of each stages by looking properly at those buttons and by memorizing your controls. In the last stage of the game, in the latter parts, some buttons will appear unexpectedly so watch out for that.

3. Timing- Timing is everything in this game. Besides, you need to know when to press the right button and when not to press. This game is pretty sensitive in some aspects. If you failed few times in pressing the buttons, you'll have a high risk in failing that stage. Buttons could be one space apart and they could also be together.

4. Have fun!

Other than that, here are the pros and cons of Parappa The Rapper:

Pros:

*In terms of game play, the controls are easy to pick up since the buttons to press will be displayed on the screen.

*The graphics is actually like a 90's cartoon show. However, it could make you feel the nostalgia once you grew up with this game and then, you'll end up feel old when you remember this game again. Nevertheless, it's a 90's game so I have no problems with the graphics.

*The music in the game are awesome. But in my case, only the music in stages 1-6 are the most memorable to me. And the plus in this game is there will be lyrics on screen and because of that, you can sing with the video game characters all along.

*The voice acting is great as well. No complains for it.

*It is a must play for those who want a real challenge for a rhythm game. Whether you are a 90's gamer or not, that is okay.

Cons:

*The game is hard and annoying at the same time. If you have short patience in this game, this game is not for you.

*The game is too short. You can only finish it for few hours if you are the best at it or if you are dedicated to finish the entire game in one take or in few takes.

Bonus: Neutral- I don't know if this game has a pause button so I tried pressing start button on my controller and it said, "Try again?" Yes-X No-O and then when I tried pressing start button again, it won't resume the game.

So far, I rate this game 9.5/10. Have you ever played this game? What are the things that you can share about your experience in this game? If you are willing to share about it, share it in the comments below!

Happy gaming, everyone!

Thoughts About Shenmue 1 and 2 Remaster For PS4, Xbox One, and PC

The Shenmue franchise is one of the best video game franchises ever made. The first Shenmue was released in December 29,1999 for Sega Dreamcast (the final console made by Sega) and the second Shenmue was released in September 6, 2001 for Sega Dreamcast and Xbox. It was known as an action-adventure game. This game is about Ryo Hazuki who is a teenage martial artist who travels through the 1980s era of Japan and China to find the one who killed his father.

The remaster of these two games were confirmed by Sega. I haven't played this game in my entire life because I never had a Sega Dreamcast but I think this game will be better in terms of graphical enhancement and updated UI, HUD, and whatsoever. Other than that, let's hope for the best in these two games.

Let us wait for the release and hope that the system requirements of these two games will run well even on the low-end systems.

Thoughts About Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is a first person shooter wild west themed game that was released in 2009 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It was developed by Techland and published by Ubisoft. The game has three modes: Story Mode, Multiplayer, and Extra Missions (which can be downloaded on the official site of Ubisoft if I were not mistaken). The events in this game is set before the events of the first Call of Juarez. The game's story line is about three McCall brothers: Ray McCall, Thomas McCall, and William McCall. Ray and Thomas were confederate soldiers but when they thought of their family, they left the army and they were called as deserters.

Meanwhile, William McCall is a priest who wants to lead his brothers to the light of the lord, meaning he's not literally into violence. He is also the one who is willing to do his best for his family especially his brothers who often fight with each other. What they actually want is to restore their house, their farmland (if I were not mistaken), and unite as a family (as the story progresses throughout the game) but the tables have turned when the McCall brothers encountered a lot things especially the medallion that leads to the treasure and also, Marisa, the girl who also caused the fight between Thomas and Ray. Ooopssss, the spoiler has gone too far I guess.

When we talk about its game play, there are two playable characters named that you can play every chapter named Ray and Thomas, but there are some chapters wherein you can only play only one of them, meaning either one of them is playable. Obviously, the two of them have different abilities.

If you play as Ray McCall:

*You can wield two revolvers

*Your concentration mode is you can target and kill multiple enemies at once without missing for as long as you set your target properly.

*Normally, you'll be wielding a shotgun or a sawn-off shotgun but you can also use rifles.

*A dynamite on your left hand and a revolver on your right hand

*You won't be able to climb the cliffs. Wait for either William or Thomas to assist you in climbing.

*Literally, you hate water.

*Perfect for point blank combat.

*His reload speed is faster than Thomas's reload speed.

If you play as Thomas McCall:

*Only one revolver can be wield (except when breaching with Ray).

*Normally, you'll be wielding a rifle or a scoped rifle but you can also use shotgun or a sawn-off shotgun.

*You can wield a bow with arrows and also, throwing knives.

*You have a rope which can be used to climb high areas.

*You are able to climb the cliffs but the downside is you'll help Ray to climb up.

*Perfect for long-range combat.

*Your concentration mode is you can target and kill multiple enemies depending on how many of them are present in the area.

Note: These things are just the things that I noticed throughout the game.

Based on my first play through of this game, I prefer using Thomas McCall because I prefer long range combat which is essential for the rest of the game, and it will also be easy for me to perform a long range head shot and well, for me, he is way more bad ass than Ray.

The game consists of 15 chapters, 5 acts. In this game, there are three concentration modes, the concentration modes of Ray and Thomas and breaching concentration mode wherein you can kill multiple enemies in slow mo after the breach. This game is not just about blasting enemies but also, there is what we call the duel wherein two men will duel each other on who will be the fastest in drawing, aiming, and shooting a gun. Just like the typical wild west movies. In the PC version, press A/D for move and move the player's hand with the use of mouse. This is kinda tricky at first but it'll only be quite unfair when you are dueling against Rattler but once you get used to the duel, then you'll be able to win against bosses in one try. For me, that makes Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood the best. You can also buy weapons and ammunition that will aid you to your battle. There are side quests that you can take before setting foot in order to gain enough money although the rewards are not that big. Riding a horse is a big yes. Wild west won't make any sense if there are no horses, right? The save system of this game can be auto save (through checkpoints) and manual save.

The pros and cons of this game will be listed below:

Pros

*Excellent game play in a way that it lets us experience living in the wild west as a cowboy or a deserter or whatever you call it. More like, it brings you the experience of a typical wild west movie.

*The OST in this game is absolutely great to the point that it makes you reminisce any wild-west content that you've seen. Its melody lets us experience the action and drama.

*In terms of graphics, it's hard to admit but it's great for a 2009 game.

*The PC version of this game is well optimized to the point that you can play the game on the lowest settings possible.

*In this game, you'll learn a lot of things especially the importance of family.

*The plot of this game is absolutely perfect. Absolutely perfect in a sense that it makes you hook up to the game until the end.

Cons

*The voice acting is mediocre for me but at least, that' already good enough though.

Therefore, I rate this game 9.5/10. Is there anything you want to add with regards to this game? Also, feel free to comment your thoughts through the comments below.

Thoughts About F.E.A.R: First Encounter Assault Recon

F.E.A.R (First Encounter Assault Recon) was released for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 in 2005. It was developed by Monolith Productions and published by Sierra Entertainment and Warner Bros. Games. F.E.A.R is a survival horror first person shooter game that has single player and multiplayer content. If I were not mistaken, Gamespy was the one who hold the multiplayer for F.E.A.R but sadly, Gamespy don't exist in today's generation.

F.E.A.R consists of 12 intervals. If you will play this game full time, you can finish this game for 2-3 days or less. However, some intervals are divided into parts. This game focused on a F.E.A.R point man who fought his way to Armacham until he finally reached the vault and kill the ghosts. Well, to avoid spoiler alert, I won't tell the rest of the plot and yet, I'm not good at explaining it since I didn't pay much attention to some voice mails and laptops.

F.E.A.R has two expansion packs which were released in 2007: F.E.A.R: Perseus Mandate and F.E.A.R: Extraction Point. About the gameplay, you can only have 3 weapons of your choice even though there are various weapons that you can encounter throughout the game. As usual, your starting weapon will be a pistol (cliche part of FPS games) but at least, you get to use other weapons later in the game.

Other than that, I will be listing the pros and cons of this game.

Pros:

-It has enjoyable single player content

-You can play this game at the lowest settings possible.

-You can perform benchmarks in this game to find out the FPS (frames per second) you can get with your rig.

-The game play is plain but at least you get to fight the soldiers and the ghosts with your guns. Seriously? You can kill ghosts with guns but at least it's something different than the usual

-The real horror actually happens in interval 10 onwards (based on my opinion)

-The atmosphere is just like the typical survival horror games but immersive in its own kind.

-To me, graphics is pretty simple.

-About the storyline, it's in mediocre I guess but at least, it'll be interesting if you did pay attention.

Cons:

-The OSTs are plain, nothing special about it.

-Everything is limited. From weapons to explosives.

-I didn't like the characters in the game. To me, they're not memorable especially Norton Mapes

Therefore, I rate this game 7/10

What are the things that I missed in this game? Anything that you might add? Feel free to also share your thoughts about this game and let us know in the comments section below.

Thoughts About Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5, a third-person survival horror game wherein you'll play as Chris Redfield or Sheva Alomar (if you finish the game). It was released in year 2009 for Xbox 360, PS3, PC. It was also released for PS4 and Xbox one last year. This game sets in kijuju (if I were not mistaken), a place somewhere in Africa. What can I say about the gameplay of this game? The gameplay is similar to the Resident Evil 4's gameplay but they put slight changes in it like for example, you can play this game with a friend through co-op and the majinis in this game are way more aggressive than the enemies in the previous games. You can give items to your partner such as ammunition, recovery items (e.g. herbs, first-aid spray), and others except weapons unless if you are organizing items before you start the next chapter or start from the last checkpoint.

The storyline of Resident Evil 5 gets interesting continuously most especially when Chris found out that the person he thought is dead is actually alive (kinda cliche though) and surprisingly, Albert Wesker became more powerful than before because of the virus and there is his puppy (not in a literal manner), Excella Gionne. To cut the story short, Chris and Sheva killed Wesker using a pair of RPG (1 for Chris and 1 for Sheva) and the helicopter leaves to the area and inside, you'll see Jill and Josh aside from Chris and Sheva. In the gold edition of the game, if I were not mistaken, you can play the Lost Nightmares and oops, I forgot the other one but in this side story game or whatever it is called, you'll play as Jill or Josh (if you finish the game) and who can forget about the mercenaries mode? No one. Mercenaries mode has a variety of characters to choose. I prefer using Rebecca Chambers because she has a lot of recovery items and her starting weapons are good enough for area of effect (hopefully, you know what I mean).

If you are looking for a replay value, this game has it. You can replay all the chapters if you want to grind and collect all the emblems. You can also practice playing the Mercenaries mode and reach the highest score if you can just make sure you know where to find the time extend and the combo item or whatever is it called. At first, the camera angle is too horrible if you'll play it for the first time but as you play throughout the game, you'll get used to it. In the PC version, the frames per second (fps) are capped from 30-60 fps but you can set it to uncapped. In default, the frames per second is not capped so you don't have to worry about adjusting fps that you desire.

In Lost in Nightmares, you can change your camera angle to fixed camera angle, the camera angle used from the previous Resident Evil games, by interacting with the entrance door (I don't know how many times). The concept in this game are fresh as the other RE games but some parts of it were recycled concepts in my opinion. However, it is okay since these add fun to the game.

I guess I already said my pros and cons. Therefore, I'll rate this game 9/10.

Is there anything you want to add about this game?

Let us know in the comments section below! :)

Have a nice day! :)

Thoughts About Command And Conquer: Renegade

Command and Conquer: Renegade is the only Command and Conquer game that is in First-Person Shooter with RTS elements. In this game, you can play in first person view and in third person view. In this game, you'll play as Captain Nick "Havoc" Parker, a commando who will save the GDI's top three research experts of Tiberium and also the world. When I play this game, I have noticed that its gameplay is unique for a Command and Conquer game and even though it's not the Command and Conquer that everyone knew, it is still loved by many.

If I were not mistaken, Command and Conquer: Renegade has 12 missions and the gameplay will be explained further. About the gameplay, aside from its uniqueness, Havoc can use variety of weapons to do his objectives. There are 3 types of objectives: Primary Objectives (must-do objectives), Secondary Objectives ( Must-do or Optional Objectives), and lastly, Tertiary Objectives (Optional Objectives). You can also get a data in order to update your map and interacting with other people or anything can add contribution to your data. Augmentations in this game come rarely so you need to keep an eye on them because they can upgrade your health and armor. Riding tanks could be fun as well. This game also have multiplayer but sadly, the servers are gone, I guess but maybe there are private servers for this game. The saving system is manual except that it only autosave on the beginning of the mission. Anyway, you can save anywhere and there are some parts of the missions wherein you should git gud but if you memorize the entire place then good for you. There was an independent development studio, Totem Arts who worked on the remake of this game called Renegade X, which was released on February 26, 2014 (open beta)

Pros:

-There are variety of weapons in this game and they're all awesome.

- As I have mentioned in this blog, it is very unique

- The storyline is save-the-world like but it's not too cliche-ey

- The music in this game is good. They make you immersed to the game

Cons

- Running is not actually running, he's like, jogging all the way. Anyway, sprinting wasn't much of a thing back then.

- It has a few bugs. Just check it out on the internet.

- Despite the uniqueness of the game, there are small parts of the game that are kinda repetitive to me.

Therefore, my score will be 7.5/10

The 3 Ways on How to Keep Yourself Interested in Gaming.

Have you ever thought of quitting video-games? Is your interest in video-games losing? You tried to quit video-games for a while but after that, you still want to go back to the gaming world? Do you still want to keep yourself interested in gaming?

Don't worry, there are 3 ways on how to keep yourself interested in gaming.

1. Try playing the games that were part of your childhood.

Playing the games that were part of your childhood can keep you reminisce the best moments you had with those games. For example, in my situation today, I mostly play the games that were part of my childhood like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. To be honest, among the games I've played, these games made me spend hours and hours.

2. Play video-games with a friend.

There are a lot of games that you can play with a friend like GoldenEye 64, Overwatch, LoL, Dota 2, Quake, Halo, and etc. It could be through LAN or have a co-op gaming on your console. Remember, the more the merrier and have fun.

3. Try exploring out of the box.

Playing the same game over and over could possibly be tiring unless you're used to it or if you're into speedrunning. In fact, there are lots of videogames that you can play. Although the elements of videogames are sometimes repetitive, there are some new concepts being put in.

There are times wherein I get tired of playing videogames. Those times, I want to quit playing videogames but instead, I still play videogames. I guss I will always be a gamer in my heart and soul.

Medal of Honor Franchise Deserves a Comeback

Medal of Honor is the first FPS game that sets in WW2 (if I were not mistaken). As far as I know, it started out as an idea by Steven Spielberg, but at the time, fantasy games were popular (if I could remember) and finally in 1999, the first-ever Medal of Honor game has been released PSX/PS1/PlayStation/whatever you call it. This game is interesting most especially to those who are avid-fan of World War 2 history. Fortunately, Medal of Honor became successful. Later on, EA games released various Medal of Honor games in different Platforms: PC, Xbox, Xbox-360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Gameboy Advance, GameCube, Wii, PSP, and etc. Medal Of Honor had a lot of developers and despite that, Medal of Honor didn't lost its essence.

The Medal of Honor Franchise's story line didn't only center in the war between US and Germans but also in the war between Allied Forces and Axis Forces and yet, they have their own Modern Warfare called Medal of Honor: Warfighter, which was released in 2012, didn't went well. It even paved way to other developers and publishers to release another world war 2 game like Call of Duty 1-3, Battlefield 1942, and etc.

Medal of Honor deserves a comeback due to the following reasons:

1. It is an outstanding FPS video game due to it is immersive and you'll learn a thing or two about the events of World War 2 in a very interesting way.

2. The story is pretty accurate from the events of World War 2, I don't know about the names if they took it from the World War 2 veterans. Maybe, the names are work of fiction.

3. According to Guinness World of Records Gamer's Edition 2008, Medal of Honor has the world record of being the being the best-selling FPS franchise.

4. It is what the fans waiting for.

Therefore I rate this game 10/10. Hopefully, EA games will release a new Medal of Honor game.

What is your favorite Medal of Honor game? Why?

Thoughts About Parasite Eve 2

Parasite Eve 2 is the sequel of the first Parasite Eve or simply saying, the 2nd installment of the Parasite Eve Franchise. It was developed by Square (now Square Enix) and published by Square Electronic Arts in NA on September 12, 2000. This game was known as a survival-horror action game with RPG elements. It was released for PlayStation 1 only. In my opinion, they released this game as a counterpart of the leading survival-horror games at the time: Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

In terms of Gameplay, I find it very unique for a 90s game because you can move around and dodge enemy projectiles and physical attack as well meaning the battle system is Resident-Evil like. the attachments serve as your quick slot which can be used during the battle that is why before the battle, you should choose which item should be moved to the attachment very well. The saving system is limited. You can only save through telephone, or payphone or any phone-related stuff.

About the story, The events of Parasite Eve 2 happened 3 years after the Mitochondria incident at Carnegie Hall. The story of this game is very interesting most especially to those who loves Science despite the fact that I barely understand anything since I didn't listen that much in the Science class back when I was in Junior-High School.

The music, character development, FMVs and etc. were made in a very organizing way. On top of that, Aya Brea is still kicking but not as a NYPD cop but an FBI agent from MIST. New characters were introduced and most of all, gaming is well organized. Therefore, I rate this game 8.5/10

Pros

1. Good Gameplay

2. As I have mentioned in this blog, the story is interesting.

3. It is immersive.

Cons

1. The camera angle is not easy to get used to if you are a new player.

2. Aya Brea's movement controls are quite complicated at first.
