One thing I've always hated in game development or development for the next generation is the focus on graphics.
While graphics can add to the game and game play, they should be at the cost of the more fundamental things. I still play games from 10+ years ago just because they surpass a lot the gameplay trodden out these days.
One of the things which will create a quantum leap in gaming, and has done over the last 40 years is AI. This is what truly makes a game more immersive and it appears to me that Xbox One is well ahead in this department.
Many have disclaimed the cloud for been gimmicky, but games like Titanfall and Forza 5 will be richly enhanced with cloud technology to improve AI and this has me the most excited. That's not the only thing that can improve with cloud technology but that's where they should focus on. Dead Rising 3 for example eliminates the need for loading screens because with the use of the cloud.
There are almost an infinite amount of other things that can be done to offload processing tasks to the cloud, but the technology is still in its infancy and in 5 and 10 years time, cloud tech will richly enhance gaming.
That's the cloud. Then there is the Xbox Live vs PSN debate, if you can even call it that.
Anyone who has played both knows how much more dynamic, easier, more intuitive and most importantly, how much greater the gaming community is on Live compared to PSN. A new matchmaking system is coming in to improve that even further by avoiding problem gamers and cheaters.
One of the myths with online gaming on consoles is that players do not glitch, crack games or cheat like on PC. While it's easier to do it on PC and PC community harbours hackers, it's still rife on the consoles.
The other benefit of DRM: It won't completely eliminate these cheating bastards but it will alleviate it somewhat. Also this STEAM model will mean more affordable games in the long run and developers getting more money which will only help further development of games.
This is important if you care about gaming. If you only going to buy a PS4 you are hurting the game community and are happy for the archaic old model which has dumb downed and hurt gaming development of recent times.
There is nothing the PS is doing to move the next generation truly forward, in fact the only innovative games on PS4 are looking like cross-platform games like Destiny and the Division, but they will be be poorer on n PSN and eventually even more so with the lack of cloud tech that Xbox one has.
