OK, and after several days of this system I have more to add:

GameFAQs is NOWHERE near as easy to use as GameSpot was. That site has always been an absolute mess with features being absurdly difficult to find, nothing is clear, and it looks straight up out of 1997. It's outdated, inefficient, ugly, unintuitive and barely coherent. There are far less features than the GameSpot boards as well. Only half, maybe less, of what we could do here can be done there, and if it can be done there it's a pain in the butt to figure out how because, again, it's not clear or intuitive. The main feature being the inability to quote a post in reply to it. It's a bare bones site and it honestly shouldn't even exist.

There is absolute no reason why GameSpot and GameFAQS should exist separately. The two sites should be fully integrated already and one or the other should no longer be used as a separate site. The whole thing is so incredibly inefficient and unintuitive and I'm wondering if the people in charge did any market research or focus groups at all before they made the change? Because the only result I can see from this is fewer new users and a loss of current users. I know I'm already using this site, and especially the forums, FAR less than I used to.

It's terrible from an operating and business pov and from the customers pov.

I HATE it. It's the worst symptom yet of just how awful and useless this site is becoming. What exactly is the point of this website if they continue farming off site features to other sites? Is this some consortium of web developers who want to make their users register for as many useless sites as possible in every effort to confuse them and push them away and make them hate them? Is this some massive "social experiment"?

I don't know, but I do know it's bad business.

If I'd wanted to use GameFAQS, I'd have registers for that site to begin with. If I wanted to use FUSE, I'd have registered for it to begin with.

And the fact that GameSpot actually has the audacity to sell subscriptions to this site as it continues these practices is astounding and reeks of a con. It all leaves a very bad taste in my mouth and makes me think very, very, very poorly of this site and everyone involved with it, as well as of GameFAQS (well, I already thought poorly of that site, but my opinion has gone even lower now), and of FUSE.

[QUOTE="johnfatz1"][QUOTE="son-of-a-gun707"]

lol i fixed my problem, i switch my TV to standby and then turn it back on and the sound is back.

Manuel24

Same here! Thanks man!

THIS.

got the sound problem too, after 15 min of reading I tried to turn off my tv, yep then turn it back on and got the sound.

Just wanted to say I just got this problem and doing this fixed it for me as well! Which is very strange - I didn't think the problem was with my tv because the sound worked fine on cable, xbox360, and gamecube, but not ps3??? And I'd tried fixing the hdmi cable to make sure it wasn't loose, restarting the system and the tv, and nothing worked until I did this for some reason.

Odd as hell.

Well, you don't need to reupload it. Like I said, your avatar HAS updated.

Let's do a test to see if you're still seeing a cached image... both of these images should be the same:

What do you see?

dab198

ok, now they've both changed to what they should be. The image in your post and and my icon. I restarted my computer a few times and refreshed a few times, and somehow it did the trick :/ I don't know what the problem was. Something got stuck apparently.

But thanks! Everything seems to be working now, fingers crossed it stays like it should be now!

ok, so in my browser, I went to options, and deleted all "gamespot" cookies, and then deleted everything in the cache, came back, reuploaded it, tried the link again, reuploaded again, and still it's the same!

[QUOTE="dab198"]That tinypic URL address you gave in your first post is what your current avatar is showing. Should it be something else then?dab198

It's not what I see on my end. It's stll showing the old one :(

Might be worth you trying a clear of your web cache then. Your avatar has definitely updated.

er, and how would I go about doing that? (sorry if I'm being dense here!)

Oh? Looks like there's a cache issue here - when I looked at this thread just now romana's avatar hadn't changed, then I typed up a reply and refreshed the thread and noticed the avatar had changed to the TinyPic one, but looking at the page source indicated that it was being hosted by GameSpot. Yet another refresh and the avatar reverted back to the first one however. I will add that I took the liberty of changing my avatar using the TinyPic URL, and the image appeared as my avatar without any problems, so I'm not sure why it isn't working on romana's end.silentexistence

Yeah, once or twice while I was updating it, it looked like it switched to the new one for a quick second, and then it flipped back to the old one somehow. Now it's stuck on the old one.

When you paste that TinyPic URL into the user icon field and press Apply Changes, does the new URL stay in the field or does it revert to the old one? Try pasting the URL and applying changes several times in a row, as the changes sometimes won't stick on the first go.silentexistence

This is what I did. Most of the time, the url remained the tinypic url, sometimes it went blank. But none of the times did the new icon show up properly - it was a blank image or had a red x in it (which I know the image isn't broken because I had just uploaded it and checked the image url several times). It's very strange that none of them are working :( I thought it might be my noscript on mozilla at first, but when it still didn't work on the several other browsers... I don't know.

I just tried it again for the first time today and it still won't work.

I try uploading it and it says it went through, but when I refresh, it's the same old one. I tried uploading to a different source (tinypic and photobucket), but that still didn't work - those images just won't show up (http://i42.tinypic.com/nv6w5l.gif is the sort of link I was using). I've tried changing it via firefox, chrome, opera, and even internet explorer, and it won't work on any of them :(
