The Planet Explorers is still an Alpha and may have quite some time to go to reach final release. But if they do get it through, I believe it will be one of the hottest PC games.

You won't be disappointed. I have followed it since their first alpha. Make sure your video card supports DX11 though. it does not, is the difference massive? I'm not sure. But seems some people got problem if the GPU does not support DX11.
Planet Explorers got Alpha 0.4 released a few days back at http://www.indiedb.com/games/planet-explorers, free to play. Tried it and it's really fantastic with great potentials. Way better than previous versions. In my opinion it's also way better than Starforge at this development stage, especially in terms of artistic work. Well, let's see what will come out with both games. Starforge got some funding from Indigogo now and they may be able to polish their game a bit.
