New Super Mario Bros. DS

I bought this game on my way home from work, and played it as much as time and my batteries would let me (a couple levels into world 2 right now). I'm not yet ready to write a review, but so far this game rocks! Everything I heard about this game is right, it is very much a Mario game in the old style, but with beautiful new graphics, fun new moves, and new worlds to explore. I bought the official guide, but even with that I am having trouble finding the bonus levels like the swimming one in the first world. No matter, I'm still having lots of fun!

In other news, all Nintendo fans and others waitting for Wii news remember that this weekend (8/24-8/27) is the Leizig show when new information may come out, unless Nintnedo waits for Tokyo or their own special venue. Keep your fingers crossed!

New Avatar!

So, I haven't liked my avatars since I joined this site, I was just using them as something to have their. I like a lot of other people's, but I didn't want to just copy theirs. Not only would it be lame, but confusing if you look for certain people's avatars on boards to easily see if they responded to a quesitoin (I know I do). So my new Avatar is Foamy the Squirel. I know, he's not a video game character, but he's really funny and I like him. Plus Ironically, he likes to make fun of people playing video games. If you haven't seen his cartoons and want to check him out, go here. L8r!

Wii!!

I am so excited about the Wii and the gaming revolution that it could spark! I am so glad that Nintendo is not afraid to be an innovative company and try something new, they seem to be the only hardware maker that really is.

Oh I know, the 360 has gorgeous graphics and great online play, the PS3 will look great, as does the PSP. But none of these systems have done anything to truly advance gaming. The DS has obviously sparked renewed interest in handhelds, as seen by it's sales figures. And the UMD has been a real disapointment, so much that fewer movies are coming out on the format. As for the PS3, it has actually gone backwards IMO because they had to eliminate the rumble pack to make room for their motion technology, which will only be tilt technology, not full-motion like the Wii (it seems pretty obvious to me that Sony put this in pretty last minute to try to compete).

If it turns out that the motion sensing is just too gimmicky and isn't a real enhancement, then I'm sure that Nintendo will suffer accordingly. But based on what I have seen from the way this will work in different ways on different games, and the excitement that is building for this machine, I really don't think that is the case. I think in the next 5 years you could see a shift in market leadership. I'm not sure if Nintendo will end up on top, but I do think Sony will no longer hold that spot.

6 Month Update

So I realised the other day that I haven't created a blog post since I reported buying my DS in February. I really love that little blue guy, except for the fact that I need some new games. I currently have Mario Kart DS, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Resident Evil: DS, and Namco Museum for GBA. I'm tired of playing Mario Kart by myself, and I am totally stuck early in Metroid. I should go back to RE although I don't think I was really getting anywhere when I stopped.

On a high note, my wife has been playing the DS at home and likes Galaga and Mario Kart so much that she wants to get her own, which means we can play MKDS together. It might also enhance our experience of having a Wii when it comes out.

I'm thinking that for my next game I will either get one of the 2 Marios or Castlevania. I haven't decided which. I guess I will have to see what I feel like when I go to the store, which I would like to be next weekend although the budget may not allow it, even though I get paid! What a bummer.

Finally Got DS!!!

I did it! Friday after work I went to Tower City and purchased a new blue DS, starter kit, Mario Kart DS and Namco Museum GBA. I charged it up that evening, and by Saturday night I needed to recharge it! Mario Kart is awesome. I plan to try the multiplayer at a hot spot tonight! Woo Hoo!!

PDA for DS

I am just wondering if Nintendo could make a PDA card for the DS, so it could operate like a Palm Pilot. It already has the touch screen and memory in the cards, I think that would be a great add on function.

DS Wifi

Well, sounds to me like the DS wifi is working well, although I wonder if anyone has tried it in a Mcdonald's too see how well it works.
