From the press conferences, it looks to be a good year. I'm excited to see just what the PS3 and Wii feel like. I'm also stoked for BioShock, the sequel to my favorite FPS of all time, System Shock 2. Then of course there's the surprises. I hope there's still a few in store.
I cringed at the price point for PS3. The $499 model just isn't worth having, considering that an extra 20% gets you wifi, support for memory cards, 3 times the HDD capacity, and HDMI output. $599. Wow. Twice as much as PS2 and PS1. This is no longer a "poor man's" hobby.
Of course, new Final Fantasies get me excited, even if it won't arrive until we're talking about PS4 (speculation). Heavenly Sword looked pretty great too. I wonder if 99 Nights or this will be a better title.
Halo 3. I never seriously played the first two. I know, I know, practically heresy for a game designer. Somehow though, I'm excited about this new installment. It seems to have entered my canon of video game greats without even playing it. Even though the big news of the show is around the new consoles, I think Microsoft is in a rather enviable position. They'll stand their ground for sure. And with Mistwalker titles on the way, I think they might finally win me over. I also dug the whole streamlining Messenger with Xbox Live with your mobile phone. Neat, although not specifically game-related.
Seems like the PSP is mysteriously quiet. The DS seems to still have some interesting titles on the way. Offerings on the DS from those other than Nintendo seem to be rather thin. Lumines II for PSP and Meteos Disney Edition both sparked some interest for me.
Should be fun. I want to hit Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles plus Tommy's Original World Famous while I'm in L.A. After that, I'll blog something else...maybe.
