So I just picked up Rage when I was offered it for half-price with my copy of BF3. I have to say that this game runs smoother than any game I can remember playing and has great graphics and a relatively large gameworld. In order to run this way, there is a large install of around 10/15 minutes when you first start up the game then, when moving through certain parts of the gameworld, there is a short loading screen to load up that section.

My question is this, would you happily allow all gaming companies this amount of loading time in order for your games to run just as smoothly and look just as good? Or, are you too impatient to go through that with all your games and would prefer short loading times with the current standard of visuals and frame-rates?

I for one would love all games to run so smoothly and wouldn't mind that sacrifice. Can you imagine the fallout games running like what Rage does? Too amazing to even think about!

I still play PS2 games often (about the same amount as PS3 games).jimm895
The last titles I played on my ps2 were MGS2+3 though I just picked up SOCOM1+2 for a combined total of 2p. I couldn't resist, wanna play through the campaigns :) and I'm not exactly taking a risk with a 2p purchase!

The Campaign mode on the second game was amazing to me... it's still a gorgeous bit of graphics... and I did my time with it online, but honestly what turned me off about the game was not the game itself but some of the players it attracted online. I've also never felt like the targetting was something I had any control over in the online, I'm not a good third-person perspective player, I suppose... I liked the brief FTB3 on the PSP recently (I realize that was Slant 6). Who knows, perhaps I might play another itteration for the Campaign, but I won't bother with the online because of 3rd-person-suckage I have aready admitted to!

:D

I was always pissed that lag effected the most interesting maps, and that certain weapons were over-powered... but good times, I guess... good times.

haha! that's fair enough I suppose :) I don't thing we will need to worry about lag so much anymore. even though I don't like or play MAG, the servers run smooth. especially foor the number of players it supports

I'm interested, after I read this I got a little more excited.

Flatbattery
yep, its definitely a good thing they're taking that stance. At the same time though, this game will have some major differences from S2. we'll just need to wait and see if they can pull off both, A. pleasing the existing fans, and, B. drawing in a much needed new fan base. exciting times ahead for Socom fans

also how the wildlife is dispersed throughout the gameworld, with all the animals located in believable habitats. then there is the way the missions are all intertwined, with some side missions actually fitting in with the story missions. and the ability to start other mission while still actively going about another mission! lol.....its awesome.......

Just wondering if anybody is interested or would be interested in the new Socom game to be released this fall.

I realise the previous games are not that popular these days when compared with the success of Socom 1 and 2.

But Zipper seem to be giving Socom 4 a major overhall to make it more accessible to an untapped audience, with things like a new campaign mode with co-op, regenerating health and a cover system to name a few things.

I'm just curious to gauge the level of interest from people who wouldn't normally consider buying Socom.

The European store was always Thursday's at 6pm. I didn't realise it had changed to Wednesday though. I don't believe you lol. The only games I can think are cheaper are the PSP compatible games. There is a significant price difference with those.
