Football Blog : Liverpool show who is the bigger club

The most anticipated match of the weekend for many reasons saw Liverpool come out on top against a not very good Chelsea side. The match will not be known for it's quality or be an advertisement for the premier league, but it still meant everything all the same to the Liverpool team, fans and manager. The team that rightly deserved the win, as they were far more superior to any threat which Chelsea could muster, even with their new £50 million striker making his debut.

The debut for Fernando Torres did not really go to plan for the Spaniard as the pasts talks of scoring a goal against his former club seemed to be matched with no attacking threat provided by himself. However this could be put down to the Liverpool defense as every time Torres managed to get on the ball he was quickly crowded out by a wave of red, this gifting him a smack in the mouth from Agger. The only time the striker managed to get a sight on goal, his shot was quickly snuffed out by a block from Jamie Carragher, a player who had being out for the past 3 months yet played like his life depended on it. Torres disappointing debut was compiled as he was brought off after 60 minutes with the Liverpool fans chanting various songs as well as waving various banners, all aimed at the Spaniard.

However the day belonged the Liverpool as they managed to control the midfield with the cool head of Lucas Leiva as well as provide width with Kelly and Johnson, this also worked defensively as neither of Chelsea's full backs managed to get any real action above the half way line. The 3 at the back controlled and snuffed out any Chelsea attack which there was little of. The creative influence of Gerrard and Meireles linked up with Kuyt well throughout the game and got forward at every opportunity. This new freedom given to the Liverpool players making them a real attacking threat and also making the players enjoy the tactics of manager Kenny Dalglish.

The goal which was provided by Raul Miereles, 4 in 5 now, was nothing for the scrap book yet it meant all the same for the reds, which was echoed by the celebrations of Dalglish as he ran up the touchline with his arms aloft. The Chelsea defense looking a bit shaky a few times during the match and it was shown again as a cross from the right flank was left by both Cech and Ivanoic dueto confusion, then the ball was neatly tucked away by the Portuguese midfielder.

That win makes in 4 successive wins for the reds as well as 4 clean sheets for the reds men, this record surely ensures the permanent placement of manager Kenny Dalglish.
