Kai, that ram is actually perfect cause the spreaders wont touch the bottom of the heatsink and quite cheap too :D, thanks for the recommendation.

I haven't been here in years... :shock:
I have a minor dilemma I want to downsize my computer make it smaller quieter and a smidgen more computationally powerful. However, my choice of CPU is a bit more dicey because of the new architechtures coming out (Haswell and Steamroller) and I'm worried I might purchase a non-supported socket on the cusp of AMD's possible switch to low, low power units a la Jaguar. But savings is more impotant to me as a FX-8320 is 150-160.
Currently, I have (4 year old build);
- AMD Phenom II X4 920
- Hyper 212+ (1 Fan)
- 4GB of DDR2 RAM
- 1 TB HDD and 160 GB HDD (SATA Rev 2)
- Gigabyte MA-790X-UD4P (http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3038#ov)
- HD 6870 1GB XFX
- CoolerMaster Storm Scout (1st gen)
- ASUS Xonar DG
- 700 watt PSU
- DVD/CD playerrrrrrrr
I want to go to;
- AMD FX-8320
- MICRO ATX MOBO; ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=13-131-942&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=2#scrollFullInfo)
- SilverStone SST-PS07B
- Some random DDR3 RAM

Does this build even make sense? I'm trying to downsize while making it more powerful. Also, AMD needs their mobo suppliers to provide better mATX support this is abysmal btw
thanks for any help, advice or comments!
Oh, I know but I need the laptop as soon as possible
I could take a hit in quality, if I could get decent specs.
Here's an update thread to my college lappy search; http://www.gamespot.com/forums/topic/29223147/having-trouble-picking-a-lappy-for-college...
I ordered a lenovo y570 basic because Lenovo has better build quality and "warranty" than acer, so It's about to be two weeks since I placed that order,the websites order status has been bugged and I have to contact order support to see my order, so I said that if it doesn't ship by Aug .1st, I'll just order from NewEgg.
NewEgg has this acer with great specs BUT the display is terrible, so to circumvent that I found this wonderful little review and it mentions the ability to replace laptop screens. Now the laptop doesn't have a dual channel LVDS cable so I can put an HD screen in BUT it doesn't matter to me as I just want a decent screen whether it be 768p or whatever can you guys help find a compatible display? I'm just not sure what I'm looking for.

Superclocked thanks for your response, the only thing I can qualm with is that lappy the display is GUARANTEED to be utter and complete ****.
Check out this review for the same laptop in the same line;http://www.anandtech.com/show/6066/acer-aspire-v3571g9435-the-value-proposition/5
the display is terrible, its the sacifice they had to make for the kepler and the ivy.
That review is for the 15.6" model. Either way, I doubt that the screen is THAT bad, lol.. I couldn't find anything better in your price range...Yeah, me too, I might just settle for an i5 or just wait. I would get that 17 inch model but its also very big to carry around...hmmm decisions decisions. Thanks man,
