Lego Star Wars is an excellent game for a young gamer, my friend's 4 yr old loves it. It is also very kid friendly content, no gore/language/mature themes. Also you never really die, just break into lego pieces and respawn, which is sure to help avoid any frustration.

The heroes of Might and Magic series is an excellent line of turn based rpg (ish) strategy games. Number 4 or 5 would be after 2005. Disciples 2: Dark prophecy is a similar game.

Kotor series, Baldur's gate series, Icewind dale, Neverwinter Nights, are all strong single player rpg's chech them out.

Sounds like Majesty to me. You have to set markers on the map with gold bounties to attract heroes to different locations.

I found the stealth skill to be very useful, that sneak attack coupled with a high damage weapon can take out most enemies with one shot, even on higher levels. I wish I made Bow a major skill though so I could stealth kill from a far.

Pick one type of weapon and stick with it

The Arena, Fighters Guild, and Mages Guild are good places to start getting quests

0ne hour "rests" are great for a quick mana recharge and heal

Pick major skills that are "controlable" so you won't level too quickly (ie: not ,stealth, armorer, athletics etc)

Enchanting a weapon with "absorb health" will go a long way to helping you win those tough fights

Do the daedric shrine quests to get some kick ass stuff

Enjoy one of the best games to date
