Right, it would function as a "genuine personal server". That would easily make a Live membership worth the money. For example, if the theoretical hand-held allowed the user to make VOIP calls, I'd be thrilled and DELIGHTED to pay fifty (50) bucks a month for some kind of full-featured Live package. There. I said it.
Agreed--there's no reason why the next platform can't become the anchor for the owner's entertainment and web-surfing experiences. If I could reduce my A/V set-up to a cable box and a console, and seamlessly synch information with all of my other gadgets and computers--that would be pretty wild! Not just canned notices letting me know that my friends are online, but receiving in-game alerts regarding IRL events or reminders would be very useful.
By not relying on specific computers or PDAs to stay-up-to-date on important data, we will be able to become more efficient in our daily lives. If a corresponding handheld was released that completely integrates with the console, and consolidated a cell phone, camera, PDA, mp3 player and mobile gaming. . . that would simplify everything.
I'd be psyched for an update on the phantom follow-up to Crimson Skies! I'd be happy with either sequel--I simply think that the 360 needs more vehicle-combat games.

Ok--not the best choice for a present, here's why: when I was wee-high, I used to buy my mom plastic models for her birthday and Chistmas, and "help" her assemble them. That is where the OP gets it wrong. If he's thinking about horstachios during "quiet time", he's really not into his old lady on that level. No further litmus test is required.
