2005 and beyond....the New Golden Age Of Videogaming

There's never been a better time to be a videogamer. When I'm at home, I can play my 360, PS2 or X-Box. When I'm out & about, I got my PSP & DS. Not that I carry them with me all the time, but you know what I mean. 2005 will always be to me the year that videogaming hit its stride and rose to new levels of greatness. I'll try not to make this a long post so bare with me as I break it down. I realize the DS came out in 2004, but in 2005 Nintendo opened everybody's eyes, and made everybody a believer of their vision. The DS was first seen as gimmicky and naysayers cast the system as doomed even before it was released. My how things have changed! Games like Kirby: Canvas Curse, Meteos, and Nintendogs have given us a completely different experience that was never possible before. Well I'll be d*mned, two screens are better than one. An awesome library of games plus an innovative experience will help insure the DS's place in videogame history greatness. The PSP remains the swiss army knife jack of all mutimedia trades. While its games continue to push graphically what should not be possible on a handheld, what really made be stop and have one of those "holy crap, this is amazing" moments was when I popped in Socom: FTB and hopped online. I remember putting on my mic and asking, "Hey, can anybody hear me?", then somebody replied, "Yeah". F-r-e-a-k-i-n-g......awesome! The 360 launched a whole new era of gaming. Microsoft did their homework with this console and it shows. Live Arcade is so fun. The potential there is unbelievable. I can go on & on of how great the 360 is, but te secret weapon here is achievements and gamerscore. All of a suddden, I want to complete games and replay games. All this for that box to popup, saying "Achievement Unlocked". I tell ya, when that box pops up, it is so bittersweet. I've even subscribed to Live (I didn't do that with the previous X-Box). I heart the X-Box 360. Now put all of that together and it's not hard to see that we are in gaming heaven right now. Oh yeah did I forget to mention that the Revolution and PS3 are coming out later this year?
