It might be a little shocking, but for someone who has played videogames all of my life, I have never played a Final Fantasy game until this year! I felt like I was missing out on it, so I decided to give the series a try.
So far, I've been playing the Final Fantasy III DS remake and recently started Final Fantasy VII. From what I've played, FFIII was okay, I haven't gotten too far in it yet. But, I started FFVII yesterday and I played for five hours straight lol. Something I really enjoyed about the game was how the Shinra Corporation was sucking the life out of the planet and how they have a plate obscuring the sky from the people who live in the slums. It really adds a ton of atmosphere to the game.
Something I've enjoyed about both games is how powerful you feel after you get through a certain part or level up. It really feels like your character has made some significant growth and it's very rewarding.
I wasn't completely sold on the series until I played my first real boss battle in FFVII. My party was trying to blow up the second plant or whatever but suddenly, the Shinra President showed up. He gave his evil speech and then left on his helicopter. Before leaving, he left me with a parting present in the form of a killer robot that belonged to SOLDIER. The battle started and now here is the good part. I was saving up a Limit Break for Cloud because I had a feeling that I would be fighting someone strong and I used it. What happened was that Cloud hit the boss with a limit break and got a critical hit at the same time, doing 1235 damage, which is amazing for a level eight character. My roomate, who has played every main FF game to date, was completely shocked that I had done so much damage. At that point, I felt like I had just transformed into a Super Saiyan or something like that.
Simple story short: I am now a Final Fantasy addict.
Questions? Comments? Concerns? Any good JRPGS I should play? Leave a message below!
This happened to me a few months ago, but it's a pretty good story. I was playing the board game, Risk, for the first time with some of the people from my dorm. If you don't know what Risk is, it's a game where you are in charge of an army against the other players (who have armies as well) and you try to take over the world.
I was in an alliance with one of my good friends and he had all of South America and I had all of Africa. So what happened was he turned in his Risk cards to get about forty five more people. But guess where he decided to put all of them? RIGHT ON TOP OF MY WESTERN BORDER! I was like, "Wtf, I thought we were in an alliance. You better move those troops off my border because I'm feeling a little threatened right now."
The thing is, he didn't move it! So what did I do on my next turn? I was really annoyed at this point so I'm like, screw this alliance. I turned in my Risk cards as well, and got FIFTY more troops. I dumped them all onto my Western border (which already had about fifteen troops there already). I broke the alliance and obliterated the army he just got with his risk cards. Then, I moved into South America and took over everything (most of his troops were concentrated on that border so it was easy to take over after that).
Although I fully expected to win, I did not expect to see how ENRAGED my friend would become. His face turned completely red and he starting cursing me out and kept going on about how he can't believe I betrayed him. He was like, "If you were going to betray me in this game, it would only be a matter of time before you stabbed me in the back in real life." At that point, I was like WTF and we argued about it for the entire night. If we weren't at school, we most likely would have ended up in a fist fight.
After that, we didn't speak for an entire week because we so mad at each other.
I felt so inspired by this event, that I even wrote a poem for my writing c1ass You can read it if you want:
This game is going to take a while
We agree to help each other, putting on our biggest smiles
Eventually, my friend becomes weak and poor
If I destroy him now, I will win the entire war
To break my friend's trust
In order to win, this is a must
You know this alliance was always a fake
Should I play as a saint or a snake?
Burying my conscience, I coldly said
"I'm going to be the king, so off with your head."
I told this to some of my friends, and they told me these horror stories about how they would get into fights with their families over this game. So anyways, do you have any similar stories regarding Risk or am I the only one? Feel free to discuss.
FYI, my friend and I are completely fine about it now. It took us a while to cool off and realize we were arguing over something so stupid lol. :P
