i really like it. i have been a fan of the entire series. sure there are some issued, but what game doesnt have issues right after release? i think people are a bit picky nowadays. most of the things i hear people complaining about relating to this game (and most others too) are total non-issues.

if you like strategy and/or the TW series i would highly recommend this.

you are the mostly only one to have a idea if you should wait or not topic creator tough you can build ur self somegood idea tough discussion here

marcthpro

yeah i do agree with you, but i have been away from the graphics card maelstrom for a while (since i built my rig) and dont know very much about the newer cards, which is why i was looking for some advice

i only game at 1280 x 1024 (native res of my 19" lcd) and i prefer strategy and RPg to anything else, so as someone else said i think the CPU is pretty important for that too. i would rather upgrade both than drop all my cash on just a graphics card.

the BFG GeForce GTX 260 is 215 GBP which is a pretty good price (things more expensive in UK sadly), i don't really want to spend an extra 100 gbp which is what the GTX 285 costs here. then i may look at a new CPU later in the year - need to do some research on quad core as not sure if it will benefit the types of games i play.

one question i wonder if anyone can answer, is it difficult swapping a nvidia card for an ATI card? are there any issues? because i have only really looked at nvidia because thats what i have at the moment, but i have no real preference.

thank you to everyone who responded

i have a 8800 gts 320mb at the moment. i have just got empire total war and the larger battles bring it to its knees! i have to play on medium with all the "check box" options turned off.

i was looking at the gtx 260 896mb (by bfg) - is this a good upgrade from what i have?

also, i have a core 2 duo e6600 - is this likely to be (part of) the cause for poor FR on ETW?

thanks

not sure which is better, but i have a 8800 gts 320mb and i could play the empire demo at 1280 x 1024 with everything maxed and shadows turned off. therefore i think those cards would be absolutely fine on that game.

i for one am glad that i can still play the latest games on my bfg 8800 gts 320 mb. i can turn up most things at 1280 x 1024 (native res for 19" lcd) and just turn shadows off or down. i built this rig about 2 years ago and the only upgrade i have done is 2gb ram to 4gb ram.

when you are getting used to RTS i would recommend turtling. turtling means building up your base and LOTS of base defenses and defensive units without going to attack the enemy. you are basically trying to make your base impregnable. then when you are rich and have all the techs etc you can build an army and wipe out your opponents at your leisure.

this works well against comp opponents as they just keep throwing waves of weak units against your uber defences.

Total War series.Sordidus
ditto medieval total war 2 gold is cheap now - my favorite game of all time. although empire total war will be out soon and i think that will steal the crown.

i mainly turtle, but also a lot of research. even my offense is defensive - e.g. guarding artillery with other units and putting them just about in range of the outskirts of the enemies base, then advancing bit by bit.

im looking forward to getting this. what they have done sounds interesting. however i hope old style RTS (i.e. base building and resource collecting) doesnt die out because i actually enjoy those games - building up an economy is part of the fun to me.
