Don't you need Half-life 2 installed to use it? Or just steam?

Any games out there like this? I guess any melee would probably be medieval, swords n stuff, but I just want a good up close fighting game. (Not sports/boxing) Online would be a huge plus too. Good example would be Rakion, but that thing is dieing, lagging, and they haven't fixed anything in months...
