I just thought I'd make a blog about this. Okay, so the question is: which one is better? The original halloween or the new remake? Here's what I thought of both films:
Halloween 1978: This is definately a true horror movie and among the best of all time. Great character development, although I don't think Sheriff Brackett was really developed that much. Besides that, there are excellent scares here. Carpenter really knows how to build suspense. What's also excellent is the brilliant music score. Heh, talk about a creepy theme! How Carpenter thought of that is beyond me.
Halloween 2007: Alrighty, here we go. This movie was okay I must say. Of course when compared to the original, this is crap. But still, it was entertaining to sit through. I liked how Zombie gave us Michael's backstory, although I will admit that it was much creepier not knowing much about him. He actually has a MOTIVE here, whereas in the 1978, he's just an evil, emotionless, killing machiene. The execution was fair, and as for the character development......well, they actually had some. Which is good and bad. What's good is that there is a lot more than in other recent horror flicks. The bad is that we hardly care for any of the characters at all. I actually wanted Laurie to die. Which is strange, because I had so much affection for the old Laurie played by Jamie Lee Curtis. And talk about her friends. I wanted them to die the most of all. Which is again strange, because I czred about them in the old version, where they were portrayed as innocent and fun. Here they are like dirty swearing hoars. Why would we care what happens to THEM?
I think it's obvious that the old Halloween beats the remake. Besides the backstory, I didn't think there was anything really new in the remake. It just felt like a rehash of the first film, except with more blood, swearing, and nudity.
