Before I start my slight rant about this game;
1st. I have never played the game.
2nd. I may just be doing this to justify being a 360 owner and may have slight biased views.
3rd. I HATE stealth games because I can't play them and only succeed in playing casual games and if they venture into the hardcore then I automatically fail and get a friend to play them whilst I sit and watch and enjoy many of the great looking visuals and story. My friend loves to play my games and I love that I have a friend that can complete any game with enough time, a night round mine will usually suffice.
Ok.
Firstly I'd like to start with a happy thought. MGS is a talented series of that has enlightened many to go out and enjoy games. The characters are in depth, heck I own Sons of Liberty and enjoyed it. Right so firstly, the PS3. I bought a 360 because in the beginning there were no games for the PS3, all of the games i wanted were either ported on 360 (DMC4) or are already on the 360. The blur-ray technology was not going to be used by me and many of the features to create an extensive price tag either were on the 360 already or were just not going to be used. The size of the PS3 was also a major issue, I have a small room and it would probably leave me with less breathing space then I already have.
Right so onto the game, no wait first I'll talk about the ratings it has accumulated over the past days. So far it has gotten a huge number of 10 or close reviews with a slight jolt of an 8 here and there. So this is all great for the game but ever since GTA4, which I have bought and played and think it should be an 8 at best, reviewers seem to be using the 10 score excessively over the past month, GTA and now, or in Gamespots case no doubt soon to be, MGS4. The last 10 before this was given out a decade ago to Legend of Zelda OoT which was, in it's time a masterpiece and from what I've seen from GTA4 it is far from masterpiece but maybe a slight fun time waister you go back to every so often. Anyway back onto MGS4.
MGS has been a great series that Hideo Kojima should be proud of but the storyline of the series has never grabbed me, this is a personal statement which I'm sure you'll disagree with. The fact that one person can get killed of then suddenly brought to life again is something that in my eyes was never successful, when a character dies, usually after a long and grueling boss battle, they come back to life, I feel as though it mocks the player slightly.
Nice looking screenshot I must admit but he's a frikkin Vampire! A guy who just won't die!
One of my friends bought the PS3 specifcally for MGS4 and I thought this may well be a bad move on his part. He is so in love with the series that he is mssing the joys of many other great games that are easily accessible on the 360. Instead he chooses to wait for the one game he hope will save the console, I was expecting Haze to be one of the better PS3 exclusives but apparenty that didn't go so well.
Ok so I have been hating on the PS3 and MGS4 quite a bit but some people, like my friend, are blinded that this will be their saviour, this will be their messiah, but in the end it is a game that will no doubt get raving reviews. It will be a good story to the people that love MGS and it will be their saviour, the PS3 will sell more than it will ever do in the future, unless ofcourse theres a MGS5.
O I heard the mandatory install and the grey and brown graphics can probably get ou really depressed, Assassins Creed almost blinded me.
Well this was just one of those things I had to get of my chest. I hope no one hates me for this and I respect all those who love the PS3 and MGS4 it's just the several at my school are total idiots that will argue and argue for their PS3, Callum!
Sims.
