I noticed this when i played it. I haven't played every of the old. I refused to play 6 because of the rabid hatred they have for 7 or mocking like the main characters in 8 and 10. So i mocked back, calling it a game for failing nerds who are into batman, Kefka is like the joker and the whole plot being against the empire is like Star Wars so only loser nerds will think this is great story telling.
But that is how i reacted at the time, i still do in a sense.
But the games i played is FF1 NES on wii, FF1 Origins on PS1, FF3 on steam, FF4 on steam, FF4 after years on steam and FF4 on PS1.
Those are all the games i played. ( i even sneak played Chrono Trigger til that robot died and i got stuck in time warp that i had no idea to go further.)
But to sum it up. FF1-FF3 is grindy, and FF4-FF6 including Chrono Trigger is just generic. Like its all really "SPRITE ACTION GO!!!" or the whole setup, they even made the graphics worse for the FF3,FF4 remake, they even where so lazy to not have water texture on the ground when you random battle in one in FF4 beginning of the game. Which was fixed in FF4 after years on steam.
Problem i have with the old is its so super boring games, nothing actual human normal beings today will go back unless you are into D&D or something and be like... oh yeah... this, this looks fun. Like if you are into skateboarding, don't live in USA with nerdy people. You will never get an actual normal kid who actually have a social life to play these old games. Thats all i am saying.
