Hey guys, i want to get the Gigabyte gtx 460 1gb OC version for my birthday and have a question about overclocking it. Firstly without messing with the voltages what is the max speed i can reach please? And secondly is there a way i can just leave the fan on auto? I dont want to mess around with fan speeds that is all. Also, as i only game at 1360x768 res, is there much point in me oc'ing it?

There is no guaranteed overclock speed that you can get out of a GTX 460 (or any card) on stock voltages. Everybody that I've seen has been able to get to at least 800mhz or higher. Mine does about 840mhz on stock voltages, 1910 (955) on the memory. Results will vary. I leave my fan speed at auto, and it never gets hot. Even under full xtreme burnmode at 1080p with 2xAA applied it only hits about 74 degrees C. I've never seen a game get it over 67 degrees C. Very cool-running card. Idle temps are between 28 and 32 degrees C.
Considering that you're only running at 1360x768, I don't think you'll see much benefit from overclocking. Truth is, I don't think you'll see any benefit from getting the 1GB version over the 768mb version at that resolution unless you like to crank the AA up.
Thanks for replying, firstly i know my resolution isnt that high but i think with the newer games being released it will benefit me having the 1gb version and oc'ing it, as i like to have my AA up to at least 4x+ and AF always maxed.. Also the 1gb version isnt that much more expensive :P. Sounds like a great card then, i thought i might have to be fiddling with the fan all the time, but leaving it on auto sounds just fine ^^. Cheers for the replies all, Sean
