Handheld gaming has always been known for being a cut down console that doesn't have the technical power that home consoles have.
I looked back and realised that when the handheld wars started, only Nintendo had outdated hardware. PC Engine GT played home console games, Atari Lynx had Amiga-like graphics and Game Gear had power equivalent to a then last gen console.
But since Nintendo dominated, there were no more contenders for high end portable gaming until the PSP.
The PSP, when it was launched, had the power of a home console. It is practically a PS2 and more powerful than Dreamcast and since neither now current gen consoles had been released, it was a system with capacities matching at least one home equivalent.
I wouldn't be suprised if the PSP 2 had 360's power, and that is what handheld gaming needs. I would love to have a portable console that plays the latest games without being severly dumbed down.
I feel Nintendo is pulling handheld gaming back, the DS should have been released in 1999-2000.
In all, I feel it's a pity handhelds don't match the power of home consoles from the gen's get go but maybe someday someone will push it further.
