Judging what I read from the TC he is saying you have to go the extra mile on a multiplat game for it to score the same as the console versions. Which is exactly what you described with mass effect. Espada12
8.5 on 360 and 9.0 on PC after being released like 6 months later on PC. I think it should have been obvious that the technical bugs would have been fixed (none of them major) in that much time and the inventory system would be easier to use on PC. If the reviewers were considering these upgrades to the game for PC version "standard" then the game should have scored the same.
I think RPG's are roughly same on PC and consoles shooters PC definitely gets the edge. Adventure and action games i prefer on consoles and most of them suck on PC. and yeah RTS games are obviously way better on PC.
Yes the PC has mods and obviously better graphics but i prefer to lie on my couch and play on a controller that feels right in my hands. That alone negates the advantages of PC for me. (i was a hardcore PC gamer until 2005)
i think its hilarious how you guys think the PC has some real UBER standards in comparison with consoles when in fact they are all reviewed similarly
All you need to do is look at the Mass effect scores for the PC and 360. 8.5 on 360 and a 9 on PC. sure the PC version fixes a few of the bugs and makes inventory/power/weapon use more better thanks to the keyboard/mouse but if these features were standard for PC titles shouldnt the game have scored the same? Going by the TC's logic the PC version should have scored an 8 seeing how the PC has like a gazillion RPGS.
i think they need to release a new sleeker version of the 360 premium
cut down the size a bit and change the power brick, and also use a better dvd drive.
i can see a slim 360 selling much faster in places like japan and europe. sell this for about 350$ and they can get some momentum going otherwise they will be dead last.
i wonder which moron designed the Halo 3 360. the thing is butt ugly and nobody buys it
People that were able to stand the first 5-6 hours of the game would realize how fun and intriguing this game is....(i started doing the sidequests to get used to the combat )
And to the people saying CRPG endings are better....in what sense? The entire Virmire mission was a non stop rollercoaster. And yes i have played most of the great CRPGS like fallout 1, 2, Planescape, Diablo, BG2. But then this is my opinion and i have never had an ending more satisfying.
However several side quests were boring....and the Mako could have had better controls (no boost to cut down travel time?). Adding in the tech issues i can see how someone can give this game a low score. Even with all these issues though this is probly the best game i have played.
Mass Effect is definitely one of the best games i have played. I would put it along with Half life 2 as my all time fav game.
However, i wouldnt give this game a perfect. Its frustrating to think how much greater this game could have been with a little more thought and effort.
I had some issues with the game that i hope will be fixed
-The combat system takes a while to get used to. no tutorials. the combat goes from mediocre to extremely satisfying towards the end (when you become an offensive powerhouse) but it would have been nice if it was at the same level throughout the game. (what im trying to say is that u dont feel muchsatisfaction when ur at the lower levels)
-I kept wondering throughout the entire game as to why the Mako didnt have a boost optionon it. Travelling from one point to the other on planets with huge mountains and cliffs was extremely annoying and boring. would have been so much more fun if there was a turbo option to it. The Mako's turret was hard to aim (you cant aim at people on same height as you) and the entire gun felt clunky to use.
-Few sidequests were interesting. While there were definetely some good ones out there. Some of them were ruined due to the excessive travelling with the Mako. Sometimes you get quests while you are at a planet asking u to goto other planets to complete them and come back. Most often you wouldnt do them right awayand when you did do them the sense of urgency was gone. at one point of the game i had about 10 quests asking me to goto some planet, space ship or whatever and save people. It felt like a chore doing them.
-They should have reduced the number of sidequests to increase their quality. Compared to the main story/quest (which is by far the best out there right now) they felt like distractions. Although i think i might be biased against them cuz of the use of the mako in most of them. I did like the side missions in Citadel and Feros though so im thinking my hatred for the mako might be the cause.
-Lack of special iterms. while there were a lot of different ammo/weapon/mods out there there wasnt anything special out there besides the spectre gear. I mean when i complete a hard quest it would be nice to be rewarded with a unique weapon/armor/ammo etc. It gets tiring when you have to turn the 100th Proton Rounds you picked up into omni gel
I'd give this game 2 scores. Main Story (Perfect) and sidequests (8/10)
so you need the PS3 AND the PC to counter the 360 games library?
i can play a lot of PC games on my 360 (bioshock, alan wake, gears etc) and also enjoy a lot of exclusives like NG2, mass effect, halo, PGR etc.
while going with what you are doing i will need a decent PC and a playstation to enjoy a similar selection of games...
not really a hard choice is it?
unless the PS3 magically starts playing PC games i dont see how some 360 games being available on Pc makes the PS3 a better choice
you should have got the PS3 seeing how awesome its game library is and then you could feel even more stupid.
Obviously, the PC will always have the biggest library of RPG's available. However i doubt anyone is really excited to get a good PC to play games that came out 5-10 years ago...
Video game standards are raised to new heights with the release of every new game.
Point of the thread is you get a lot of great RPG's on the 360 this year compared to the other platforms.
