If you can log into your Gamespot account with a Gamespot name/password, you should be good.
You are probably also fine if you log in with a Google account and not a Google+ account but should create a password if you don't have one just in case.
I'd agree that having different performance specs isn't a good idea. One of the benefits of a console is yours is just as powerful as everyone else's so if developers make it work on one system, it works on all systems.
A decent number of Indie games never make it to console. The current generation made it a lot easier for smaller studios to get their games on consoles but some still don't make the jump.
