the little medal things under my level... why?

i got one simply for registering, it's verging on sarcasm:

"ooh look, he's managed to fill out his name and email address, here have a medal..."

i'm not dissing this at all, i think it adds a very novel twist to what would normally be a boring personal space on a gamers website (which are never really that interesting). however i think recieving a medal for registering is a little extreme!
