[QUOTE="soapymargherita"]

I have an HD 4650, dual core 4200 processor and 2GB RAM. Can anyone tell me if it sounds like this game will run, on low settings obviously? I really want this game and have read it really doesn't suit the xbox so if I can get it going on my PC I will.

muscleserge

yes it will run just fine in dx9 on low, and it looks good even on low settings.

I hope you're right, cos if so that news just made my day.

Wish there was a demo about so I could check before buying.

Over the top blood effects are a bit ridiculous, .

sleepingzzz

You can never have too much blood

Maybe not. But when a character is lying down gasping his last breath, and you're having one last serious, sad-moments conversation with them, while more blood than their body could ever hold is pooling underneath them quicker than if you poured it out a bucket, it kind of makes the moment seem a bit goofy.

Been caning through this game all day. Got over the initial confusion I had with the controls and once I got into the Ostagar mission my love for this game really started to heat up. The combat is great fun when you've got spells and abilities going all over the place. Alistair is funny. The dog is random and cute. My own character makes me laugh because everyone thinks he's so wonderful but he always looks really gormless. I am loving the story progression (counted four moments so far that made me sad, shocked or angry which is pretty good going for a game) and think this game has some of the best dialogue choices I've played, I really like having to think hard about what I want to say.

Finally got it today. Just completed my origin story (playing as a human noble / rogue), after about 2 hours. Wouldn't say I'm 'blown away' by it but so far really impressed, as a massive Baldur's Gate fan this is exactly my kind of game. Camera controls took a bit of getting used to but once I started using the keyboard more than the mouse things got less hectic. Been playing mostly with the tactical view but I love that you can zoom in for a closer perspective.

I think the graphics are pretty decent, at least I don't see what some people have been whining so much about. They are not top-of-the-line but they're not bad by any means. Area design is really nice I think. The game set my visual options to all low/medium and 800x600 resolution (Not sure why. I have a 512mb Radeon HD4670 graphics card which I didn't think was that crummy.) but I put them up to 1240x768 and all medium/high and it runs smooth as you like.

Over the top blood effects are a bit ridiculous, and it is weird that your PC is the only character who's mute. Didn't seem as odd in games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion but I guess that's because you didn't see your character during conversations in those games.

Not found it much of a challenge yet but then I've only been hacking up grunts so far. I'm sure I'll meet something big soon that will be redecorating things with my blood.

I want to play more but I'm all sleepy :( Think tomorrow is going to be a long day tho.

I think voice acting is great, until you get a situation like in Oblivion, where they apparently only used half a dozen voice actors for the entire game. So you get the frankly stupid situation of two NPCs speaking to each other in the same voice.

Even better is when you get two pairs of NPCs near each other, having the same conversation in the same voices so it sounds like an echo. "I saw a couple of mudcrabs the other day" "I saw a couple of mudcrabs the other day" "Nasty little things" "Nasty little things"...

I don't know if it is a step back or not, but there seems to be less of a cut and dry moral selection in conversations. In Mass Effect you could really tell which what your character was leaning in choices, either evil or good, yet here there seems to be some real shades of gray - which is actually giving me a tougher time deciding what to say, since I still haven't determined what kind of person my female Elf protaganist is.

I like the sound of this. Games like ME, it feels very obvious which is the 'good' and 'bad' choices. I love the idea of more moral grey and more difficult choices, think it will make it more interesting to see how your character and the story develops. Really looking forward to starting this game. only 6 hours to go...

Digital Deluxe edition. I'm in the UK so it's not released until midnight tonight.

I would have to say Baldur's Gate or Fallout 3. FO3 for the sheer number of hours of my life it has eaten up.

This might change once Dragon Age: Origins is released tonight tho. I already have it pre-loaded, just waiting for it to be unlocked, which is really annoying : /

Hey, thanks for the advice. For some reason that didn't work, I think maybe because I'm using the wireless controller and maybe the game only supports the wired one (if that even makes sense). I managed to sort it out though, so in case anyone else with this problem reads this I used a program called Xpadder - www.xpadder.com - which lets you map PC controls to any gamepad. You have to pay for it but it's cheap, and it works great tho it won't ever be exactly like playing the game on the xbox, but it's good enough if like me you get bad RSI using a mouse. Thanks again for trying to help anyway.

Hey all. I'm sure this topic's probably been done to death but I did a search on here and with Google and couldn't find any useful info. I just got the xbox 360 wireless receiver for the PC. I got it from Amazon and it came on its own with no manual or anything so no idea how I'm supposed to know how to use it. I plugged it in and Windows recognised it and downloaded the drivers and it connects up fine, as long as I have the controller on before I boot Windows. But it doesn't actually work and I don't know if I'm meant to configure it or what? I bought it to play Oblivion. I know the PC is receiving the controller because when I'm in the game I can move around with the L-stick, but nothing else gets any response. The R-stick and all the buttons do nothing which is not exactly helpful. I don't know if you;re supposed to be able to use it as a mouse or whatever as well but outside of Oblivion even the L-stick does nothing. Can anyone help with this? I'm pretty irritated that it didn't come with any instructions or anything. Did a search with Google and loads of people say it works great and loads more say it doesn't work at all. So no clues there.
