Online gaming is ruining the integrity of gaming

I have been a gamer ever since I could walk and talk (age 2) AND in my opinion gaming has made both steps upward and downward. I remember the days of the SNES, Genesis and the other consoles that came and went (3DO, 32x, Sega CD, and the famous crapmaster Atari Jaguar) and games being quite basic, both graphically and in gameplay and I still prefer to pop in a SNES cartridge over some of today's games.

Firstly, I find that gaming has made steps upward due to online gaming as it allows us to converse with people worldwide and allows us to compete a lot more and todays games don't require you to leave to get sequels or expansions as you can download them.

But on the other hand, gaming's integrity is ruined by this because gaming is much more different. I remember when people LEFT THEIR HOMES to game with friends. Conversations I used to have at school used to be like "Hey, do you want to come over and play some Mario Kart or Star Fox 64?" but now conversations are "JOIN MY PARTY." Whatever happenened to split-screen?

Just one example of how it also ruins integrity is the whole "ApocolyPS3" scandal where gamers couldnt play games because they needed the internet to play. WHY IN THE HECK DO WE NEED THE INTERNET TO PLAY????? I wish we could just go back to the days when we could just pop in our game of choice whether it be on a floppy disk, cartridge, CD, or DVD and just start a game?

For those browsing my profile,

You may notice, I have a whole hell of a lot of my games listed, that's becuase I am actually filing them so I was just doing this while browsing gamespot, so I just added them... Oh and there's more to come.
