@Mech-Gouki @Matt_Hunter He's saying that the data is skewed, see my above comment.

@Mech-Gouki That data is skewed then because that only represents 1) people that play on XBL and 2) people that only play on Microsoft systems which is not inclusive of everyone. If you want that data to be accurate then you need to include Nintendo players and PS players. I still play games for N64 on the actual N64 system because I enjoy the experience more than playing it on my Wii. And I know I'm not the only one to do things like that.

I would love to see how they conducted their research to reach the conclusion that only 5% of consumers play older games on newer systems??? I guess me and everyone I know that plays games are part of that 5%. I thought the XB1 was supposed to be an all-in-one system, so why am I having to use two systems to play games on systems made by the same company?

Honestly seeing stuff like this is distasteful. Most of the game industry is extremely close-minded. All of the negativity toward the Wii U began before anyone even had a chance to play it and I guarantee that most of you that are talking crap about the Wii U have never even tried it beyond a demo at Gamestop. The Wii U offers a lot of very interesting interactions within games. Does it have good graphics compared to the PS3/PS4 or XBox360/720? No, but since when does good graphics make a good game? The Wii U is a great piece of hardware and can dig us out of this rut that the game industry is in of constantly recycling ideas. It's just up to the developers to make something good from it.

I just graduated from Full Sail back in October with a bachelor's in Game Design and I have to say that this video couldn't be more correct. Indie games are the best way to get noticed. There are plenty of tools out there to get started on a project or two. Unreal Development Kit (UDK), Unity, Stencyl, or Construct 2 are all free and good choices. One thing to keep in mind is that a game doesn't have to look good to be a good game. Mechanics is where the heart of the game lies and that's when programing comes into play.

For all you designers out there, one of the best things you can do is be familiar with a few programing languages; the two most notable would probably be C# and Java. I'm currently working on my second project and I've done all of the programing so far for both projects. Many times you don't have to dive very deep into programing to create some good mechanics.

I'm willing to bet this guy holds the record for using the most air quotes in a single video. That aside, this guy doesn't get it and gamers are usually poor by nature. I'm not saying that all gamers are, but a very large chunk of the gaming population is. This guys logic about his reasoning for the large price tag is horribly flawed. It's great in theory, but I don't see this thing taking off at all.

This is amazing, for the CEO of EA to say something like that is a little inspiring. I fully agree with him, games aren't the problem but they can be a solution to the problem. Most American's either play games on a regular basis, or have in the past. Games are the only part of the media that's being hammered right now for being violent, but what about television, movies, and music? I bet every single person on these boards can name a few useful things that they've learned from games, and it's that type of learning that can be useful and be part of the solution.

D3 is far from a failure. It isn't up to the same quality that we've come to expect from Blizzard but it is no where near being a bad game. The game's population is still in the millions of active users. I'll admit that it needs some work, but to have those kinds of numbers with problems still existing is still impressive.

Let's take a look at the MILLIONS of people that play violent video games and ask ourselves what percentage of those millions have committed a violent crime. I guarantee it's less than 0.1% which means that there are other factors in those peoples lives that triggered their actions. Video games can be violent, yes, but that's they have ratings on them. It isn't video games that do this to people, it's a series of events in their lives that lead up to it. We're not even sure if the guy that did the Connecticut shooting even played video games and it's perfectly feasible that he didn't. Also, games (even violent games) have been researched extensively and have been found to reduce violence because it serves as an outlet for stress. This type of research has been done by many different people from many various universities, but you rarely hear about the good that video games can do from the media.
