Because they became more console centric, and removed basic features that PC gamers were use to.

Same example: Star Wars: Battlefront .... terrible game in mechanics and available features.

Developers don't care anymore, shove s*it ass matchmaking in and call it a day.

Going to sound like an old man, but gaming was better when everything wasn't about making everything appeal to the basic common idiot. How is a server browser hard to use? filter by ping and players and have a good time.

But along came the console $$$

what features were removed for consoles from COD MW to MW2?

server browsers/dedicated servers, and support for higher player counts. the maps were also smaller on average and they started charging for DLC (new maps were free for CoD games on PC before MW2)

the pace was also overall faster and the gameplay just felt console-oriented

MW2 had dedicated servers, remained active for many years. Maybe they stil lare, I have no clue.

The maps were smallers across the board in the MW series because that was the whole point. Small, quickfire games as opposed to the larger scale of ww2 Battlefield. Has nothing to do with consoles. (We've seen massive maps and players counts on console games so it's a ridiculous argument anyway).

And what do you mean the pace was faster meaning it was more console oriented? Quake had some of the fastest pace shooting ever and that was PC?

Cmon, lets stop the stupidity now.

@iandizion713: You can climb up mountains in Skyrim, how is that new to Zelda? Yes the type of climbing is different of course...but then again Spiderman on the PS1 had climbing too.

Wildlife? RDR had some of the best wildlife and specific to various areas of all time. I still remember the first time I took a random ride through the snowy forest and came across a bear.

I agree, lots of modern open world games haven't done anything new but they don't claim to either, although GTA V had the awesome ability to switch characters on the fly, no loading tiem and see them going about their random duties. That's gimmicky but a lot of fun, especially at the time when no one else was doing it, and certainly not on that scale. Yet we also have t oremember what GTA did to the 3D open world 2 generations ago.

Laugh at Vice City a copy of Mario 64! C'mon let's not get stupid now.

Anyway, let me conclue very simply. Once again, Zelda has done nothing new, as I'm just shown here BUT that doesn ot make it a bad game. It's a very good game actually but much like MGS V, it has a largely barren open world. What Zelda does best is its dungeons and puzzles and you dont need an open world to enjoy that.

As I mentioned in my blog, as good and fun as this Zelda is (the best in a couple generations) it adds nothing new to the open wold formula. Enviornmental survival? Seen it, done it, bought the t shirt. Resource management...yeah done it loads of time. An open world that is not restricted by invisible boundaries (beyond specific reasons)...eh done that too.

Don't let the Ninty fan boys lie to you, it does nothing new BUT it does polish a lot of aspects from other open world games and does it better than most, although it still isn't better than the GTA series from VC onwards or Skyrim (one of the best open worlds of all time) or FO3 or FO4 (Zelda is a better game overall but the open world in FO4 is just as intriguing). Then we come to TW3, which story wise is an absolue slog but open world wise is awesome!

As someone who bought the XB and 360 (as second consoles) and bought a number of exclusives (Halo 1-3, GOW 1-3, all the Forzas on previous gens, Crackdown etc) it really is sad t osee that there is nothing on the XB1 that would entice me to bring it in as my second console.

WIth a price drop I'll probably head towards NIntendo for the first time in 10+ years. Zelda, new Mario, revamped if not new Kart...can't go wrong with that after console and games drop in price/second hand. WIth XB1, they are currently in the worst gen of Hlao games, GOW looks rubbish and the only thing going for them is Forza but it's not a system seller for me.

MS are clearly hedging heavily on the scorpio and if that flops and does not gain the groudn they'ev lost to Sony I can see them having a real tough time moving into the next gen of consoles.

I started playing the game and found it really cool...and then I realise almost every Minutemen quest and most of the side quests become far too repetitive and by the time I reached the battle between Minutemen and Institute (in itself just a reptitive shooting gallery) I just stopped.

IMO as a massive fan of FO3, this was a massive let down. I may get back into the game at some point and finish it but for the last several months, I just havent had the time or the patience to sit through it.

@MarcRecon: I think thats the problem with TW3 and why I can't label it among some of my fave RPGs, it just takes so so so long for anything to happen. I still can't get over the various quests which make up the search for Dandelion. They take up a solid 4 or so hours, give or take, and you barely go anywhere. I feel like TW3 is a long game for the sake of being long.

No one has really unleashed a surprise on us...and how can they when so much is no revealed outside of E3 and/or leaked via the internet? E3 is not what it was 15 years ago and it never will be. Plus, most major companies only release a couple of AAA titles per year, if that, so I'm not surprised Bethesda had nothing to show us apart from a couple sequels.

this is modern gaming kiddo, get used to it

I barely even use potions and everything in the game moves at such a glacial pace I just go down the action route...which is still pretty slow lol but I could not imagine alchemy.
