[QUOTE="soulreaper-4"]COLOR SATURATION > NUMBER OF CONTRAST.GregorothColour saturation is directly related to how good the contrast ratio is. Sorry buddy go and read some articles in CNET.COM. Contrast represent how black the black is and how white the white is. THE VIDEO ENGINE IS WHAT WILL SHOW THE QUALITY OF THE REST OF THE COLORS. Example from Sony: Bravia Engine 1, 2 and 3.
[QUOTE="soulreaper-4"]It's not the contrast. The number of contrast has became more of a marketing trick. The most important think is the color saturation ( Video processor).[QUOTE="Tigarian"]Just be careful with cheaper lcd tvs contrast ratios. My parents bought a cheaper 32 inch Toshiba 720p lcd and it looks fine in bright outdoor scenes but night/shadow scenes can be almost impossible to make out. As for the resolution, it's not a big deal for this console generation, although you might end up deciding to hook up a pc or blu-ray player in which case you can tell the difference if you're close enough.Tigarian

Yes contrast ratios, particularly "dynamic" contrast ratio numbers don't have a lot of meaning in the real world but the fact is some lcds, especially cheaper ones, have trouble with darks, especially in a contrasty scene. Those contrast numbers are always an exaggeration. A samsung or bravia with 5000 can look better than 10000 from another brand. Each manufacture calculate these numbers differently. At those sizes, yes, although 2ft is extreme. The general recommended seating distance for 1080p on 32" is nearer 4ft. That's why the intended use for 1080p is either computer monitor (very close) or large scale TV's such as 50"+ (sitting further away but still benefiting from the resolution because of screen size) because the idea is that a TV is supposed to be watched from a distance. 4 fts is the closest if you want to but not the best distance.[QUOTE="soulreaper-4"]So if you have a 32 inches 1080p HDTV you will appreciate it and get the best image by sitting 2 or 3 fts away? Wow then when 32 inches with higher resolutions became available we will have to eat the screen in order to appreciate the details.

You're right but not completely. Some LCDs doesn't produce darker colors right. One with relatively good black but with a superb or great color reproduction ability will always look better. Contrast = Darker Black color That's black crush, which is a common problem with LCDs, not a problem with colors. They go hand in hand though.[QUOTE="soulreaper-4"]

Well that depends on the size of the TV and the resolution. Sitting the same distance from a 32" 1080p to a 32" 720p, then yes, you might see the pixels, but you would not on a 1080p TV. Its not just as simple as saying what you are. So if you have a 32 inches 1080p HDTV you will appreciate it and get the best image by sitting 2 or 3 fts away?
