As for the fad arguement... 3D has revitalized a flailing theater industry, is being strongly adopted by Sony and Nintendo, which is most of the huge video game market, and even Disney, a nearly untouchable brand juggernaut, has committed to releasing all its future movies in 3D. Sure, they could all just up and change their minds, but these are companies people get behind and they'll want to make the most of their time and money investments. If 3D is going to flop, it's going to have to flop hard. Try and get to play with a 3D tv. It's awesome, and it's only going to get better.

If you're not interested, you're not interested, ok, but I absolutely love all the 3D stuff and want to voice a positive opinion. I went out and bought a 3D tv, even after reading the frankly nitpicky reviews. And sure, it was expensive (yay, no interest financing!), and there's not an overwhelming amount of content right this very second (still psn games and 3d espn though), but to knock the technology because you don't like the idea of glasses or are offended by having to spend money to be an early adopter of new technology, well, that's absurd. Content is coming week by week, and it's been my experience that everyone that's come over to try it out has been impressed. When you get to play with them for longer than a quick in-store demo I think a lot more people would switch to a "well, maybe some day I'll get one" type of attitude. Maybe 3D isn't "new", let's not argue that moot point, but the level of sophistication for an in-home experience is definitely at levels that are brand new and cooler than expected. The glasses aren't obtrusive or uncomfortable (at least my sony ones aren't, even over my regular glasses), and you can definitely slouch and move around on the couch without causing problems. It's not as much of an issue as I was led to believe. Same with the ghosting issues you'll read about. I've noticed it on a couple of the really low-budget programs that directv has, but all the legit 3D content is pretty solid.
