The Witcher is probably the best RPG to come out this year, so long as you dig the combat. Some people flat out hate it so you might see a few user downvotes because of it. The only complaint I would have is that you basically have one character choice.
If you're in North America, download it from the UK site if you can ... content was cut to fit M rating in North America. There isn't much in the box anyway.
Other good choices would be Guild Wars (free online play means its easy to go multiplayer pvp/pve if you want, or just use mercs and heroes you unlock to solo) or, if you're looking to step outside the traditional European-esque fantasy world, you could give Jade Empire or Titan Quest a go.
I can't recommend Two Worlds ... but I won't get in to why because it seems whenever you comment on Two Worlds the torches come out.

I'll check out the Witcher, too bad there isn't a demo. From what I've seen I likey!
I do have Guild Wars: Nightfall; for some reason I never stuck with the game past lvl 10, or once my friend quit playing it. I may just launch it up and try it again. I've run throught Jade Empire a bit, as well as Titan Quest...okay games, but again they didn't hold my attention. What about Loki? I've seen this game advertised on STEAM, but not else where.
thanks
I recommend the Witcher above any other rpg this year. But..........
While I initially gave Two Worlds a mediocre review based soley upon the demo, I now intend to rewrite my review after having played it more. Yes, the voice acting is really bad, but the gameplay is superior to Oblivion in some ways. Briefly, Two Worlds doesn't suffer from the ridiculous leveling that vanilla Oblivion did. The land is more realisitically lethal in Two Worlds. If you just go off roaming and take on enemies when you are at a lower level, you're going get obliterated.
Graphically, the landscape of the two games are similar in many respects. Two Worlds has superior shading, magic and elemental effects though.
The one drawback I have found, compared to Oblivion, is that your character and class are not completely customizable like they are in Oblivion.
Once you have played 10 hours or so, it's hard not to like this game if you like action/rpgs.
Anyway, enough of this. I want to get back to playing the Witcher. ;)

Another for The Witcher...must be something. Ok, first of all, I did not like what I saw in Two Worlds. I may download the demo to be fair.
