@saltslasher: I have a fat PS2 30000-series and a slim 77000 series. The slim ps2 is definately more silent, and the sound is more pleasant. I also owned a 90000 model but it was actually more annoying than the older 77000, the noise was more high-pitch. I have heard that the 50000 series fat models are really silent (the most silent?), but I don't know if this is true.

Hi,
Please add your comments. Then I try to rank the PS2:s and find the best models.
(with least annoying sound)
Yes, I still use it from time to time to play some of my favorites. If I get a good discount I might even buy some new game.
In my experience, each hard drive is "locked" to one specific PS3. It means, if you put a hard drive from one PS3 into another, it wants to format the hard drive before it can be used. It won't start up like your old PS3. I have no idea if data from corrupted PS3 hard drives can be rescued.
All the games you have purchased can be re-downloaded from PS Store. But save game-files cannot be restored, unless you have a backup (on USB-stick or cloud).
To me it looks like your PS2 is broken. A faulty cable or TV would not make the picture look like that. And by the looks of it, it might be very difficult to repair.
