When Nintendo puts out the numbers, they can't exactly know how many copies have been sold. It's simply impossible, and thus, it's just a good guess, their opinion. But that's not a fact. The fact is the real number we can't possible be aware of - the opinion is the numbers issued by Nintendo.
Sales numbers is not a fact, it is an opinion.
While the numbers aren't 100% accurate, they are more accurate than any random fanboy on the internets.
