It's been awhile tv.com and that's because Facebook has taken over my life or more specifically the games on it but I have to blog about some things I've seen recently.
First off
The Cape
The previews were so exciting. I thought that this could fill the void that early Heroes left behind. I would have continued watching Heroes in hopes that it would stop its too many interlocking storylines and I would have continued watching the Gates in hopes that I could get more invested in the characters. But there's something missing in these shows. Something that Buffy and Charmed had...and I feel like it's the characters and our investments in them. I HOPE The Cape can be what we want it to be. I find myself watching it...but almost half heartedly because I see its cancellation, like Heroes and The Gates, and I don't want to waste my time...and I also see my frustration. Shows like this are almost like soap operas in that so long as the show lasts there is no resolution in sight. How long are they going to keep him separated from his family? Will there ever be a happy ending? I guess time will tell.
Frozen
How sad! I felt like it was Open Water but for a ski mountain, three college kids facing possible death when they become trapped on a ski lift. Wolves, frostbite, and time=all odds are not in their favor. It's another story of people either facing death or fighting for survival.
After.life
What to say!?! I went on imdb, where I usually go to let the rush of the movie go, and thankfully got some answers that people had posted after viewing the DVD extras. I saw it on Starz so those were lost to me. The movie is ambiguous that you the viewer are left wondering whether the woman is dead or alive, whether the mortician is psychotic or helpful, whether love is strong enough...and it leaves you completely disturbed. Watch this if you're in the mood for a psychological thriller.
Social Network
Zuch may not be thrilled with the film but it made me empathize more, love Facebook more, so I suppose he should be thrilled with the added notoriety/fame of facebook.I was annoyed by the greediness of the twins, impressed with Marc's ingenuity, and the work of his friends, and disheartened bythe betrayal of a friend.
Black Swan
I absolutely did not want to watch this movie. Come on-a ballerina obsessed with perfection-pass. BUT I did see it AND I loved it. 99% of my friends hated it but I suppose I empathized with this young girl, not with the psychosis, but with her need to be perfect and her anxiety/struggle over her imperfections. Natalie Portman's portrayal was fantastic-she conveyed the mental imbalance of this ballerina to a tee.
127 Hours
Another survivalist film and one that I was completely riveted by, all the more so because it is based on a real man's unwillingness to give up, to live, to live without his arm. How do you come to that point? How do you mentally prepare yourself for that? Amazing man, story, and film.
